Want to skydive? Ask me your questions

Few hundred skydives, own my custom gear and pack my own parachute. Best hobby I can imagine. I try to convince everyone I meet to go jumping. If you’ve ever wanted to and have any questions, feel free to ask!

Highly unlikely. If you do a tandem jump (most people do for their first), the instructor will have a D License, meaning they have a minimum of 500 skydives with training on a failed main parachute (so they know what to properly do if the main fails and they will then deploy the reserve)

They are all highly experienced and you have a significantly higher chance of dying on the drive there than you do on the skydive itself

Just simply jumping out can be fairly uneventful. But hardly anyone does that. You jump with others and perform various acrobatic tricks in the air during free fall of 180+mph, or you can jump out and deploy you parachute at 13,000 feet and fly around with freedom, there is also wing-suiting as well as multiple other variations of skydiving disciplines

When you’re up jumping at 13,000ft your perspective of everything is that it’s just flat
. Standing at the edge of a 100ft building is far scarier than at thousands of feet. So no need to worry brah!

Also, you will not get the “stomach dropping feeling” when skydiving, so don’t worry about that either

Lets say you're jumping this weekend. What does it cost you for one jump?

If you didn't have your gear what would it cost you to jump with rented gear?

I only did one tandem jump 10 years ago, 14000 ft. I think it was 200ish dollars ballpark i don't know the exact number

With my own gear, it’s costs about $23 per jump, and that’s going to 13,500ft. I usually meet people out on the flightline and we devise a 30sec plan of what we want to do when jumping together.

If I was renting my gear, it would be about $70 per jump (although you can rent gear for a day and make it cheaper)

I also pack my own parachute, usually in less than 10min, but you can pay about $10 for someone to pack it for you

Tandem jumps are on average about $200, you’re along for the ride basically

Once you own your own gear and pack your canopy yourself, you can do 5+ jumps a day for less than $125

Haha, I have not. If I’m doing a solo jump I’ll close my eyes sometimes and just fall for 10+ seconds without a care in the world and just fall to Earth before opening my eyes again and deciding to live. I’ll have to try the pissing concept next time and let you know the results 🤔

Nice

Did you learn skydiving in the military or is it just a hobby?

Ever have any injuries like a hard landing?

Do you ever do higher up dives where you need oxygen?

Me and a few buddies went tandem jumping before deploying to Iraq. After I got back I decided to pursue it as a civilian. Always wanted to be a pilot, but flight school was too expensive so it was the next best option! 😂

Had a hard landing and fractured my ankle (wind direction changed and didn’t flare in time, so hard landing), but got back to it in a couple months

Haven’t done any high-altitude jumps, for civilians it’s usually 22,000ft max, need oxygen for anything above 14,000ft. Had the opportunity to jump from a hot air balloon, but whether turned to hell that morning

So mainly do jumps with random people from all over the world, free-flying is my speciality (head first to the ground as opposed to belly first, which is standard). Regularly hit 180+ mph that way

Sometimes I’ll jump out at 14,000ft and instantly deploy my parachute, no free-fall, then I’m just flying up there for 15+min with nothing but the sound of wind and birds flying around

I hope you get the opportunity to go one day my man, you’ll love it!

I went once tandem diving 10 years ago. I did like it, opening your chute high so you get 15 minutes sounds awesome

I am pretty bad with maintaining hobbies

I Dabble a bit and don't keep up with things

I can play some simple guitar but didn't keep up

Didn't keep up learning Spanish and forgot most of it

Got open water diver basic certified a year ago and haven't been since

How much did you have to do to have your first non tandem dive?

Any places that you’ve traveled to skydive that are scenic or do you stay local? I want to skydive eventually but jumping out and seeing illinois corn fields as far as the eye can see doesn’t really excite me

Tried to get into it , but only did one static jump . Had I known they were in town I would have booked my holidays appropriately, so maybe I could have done a free fall .
You need to log 200 jumps to jump in a wing suit . I’m really only interested in the wing suit part ,but where I live it’s nearly impossible to find a place near by to jump .
They did have a jumping school around Kalispell , but they were always booked solid on weekends.
I’m too too heavy and short arms , so it probably wasn’t a good idea to begin with lol

This is me back on the day . Was a real rush tbh . From memory I believe it was called a Manta chute

I have ~25 jumps out of "high performance" military aircraft. C130, c17, Chinook. Mostly combat some Hollywood

I miss the rush
