Old science experiment shows how humans may be trending toward extinction
Universe 25 Experiment
The Universe 25 experiment (1968–1973) created a "mouse utopia" with unlimited resources and no predators to study overcrowding. Despite perfect conditions, the population peaked at 2,200, then collapsed into social dysfunction—neglect, violence, and extreme isolation—leading to total extinction.
Key Implications:
-The study was originally designed to test the impact of overcrowding but the results ending up revealing less about overcrowding and more about over socialization
-Over socialization resulted in social roles breaking down and a number of mice withdrew entirely from society, engaging only in eating, sleeping, and grooming. They refused to mate or socialize.
-We see similar patterns today with the rise of social media --- simply put people are becoming more and more burnt out
-Data suggests younger generations are having less sex than their parents for the first time in history
-Data also suggests people are becoming more withdrawn socially
Overall conclusion: If trends become severe enough people will totally withdraw and refuse to mate or socialize similar to the mice due to excessive amounts of socialization being pushed across social media.
I know there are a lot of counter arguments about people becoming more isolated with a lack of socialization but these arguments aren't factoring in social media as a form of socialization. Many people are simply overstimulated by social media which has led to the withdrawal of in-person socialization which better supports the experiments outlined above.
When I stumbled across these experiments it was pretty eye opening. This is almost an exact parallel of behavior we're beginning in social dynamics since the rise of social media. The experiments were a massive failure in the original intent to study overcrowding effects but who knew how powerful they would end up being nearly 60 years later as it relates to over-socialization.

When I was a kid, when we went home, the kids at school did to and all of that stayed at school. Switch schools or something, nobody knew you, move out of state, complete new life. Can't do that now. I'm so glad so much of what I did when I was a kid didn't get recorded. Some of it I wish it did.

To your point, I did allude that this will ultimately lead to lower birth rates. That said I will back track and agree, feminism might lead women to avoid pregnancy, but I still disagree it will lead them to avoid having sex in general. They might abort babies or plan to avoid it by staying on contraception.... so yeah I can agree on those points how feminism would reduce birth rates.
Still, I stand by the decline in the amount of sex happening is not feminism. Those are two different things even though I can see how I spun this at the beginning with the experiment leading to extinction in the mice from lack of sex and I went on to cite the decline in sex in young adults.
Yes feminism will impact birth rates in particular via a different mechanism where women purposely put off having kids. But I don't think it supports the idea that sex declines or social withdrawal happens. I'll take the blame for mixing this up. I put the cart in front of the horse making the thread more excitatory about extinction of the human race.... lmao.... in reality it's more of a gradual process. We're seeing the early signs of less sex at the moment but that's the only thing happening from the over socialization we've seen.
