it's not toughness as much as blacks have nothing to lose. raw data suggests at least HALF of black men have some involvement with the justice system/imprisonment/law enforcement for criminal activities. almost certainly 80% of blacks know someone close to them who is either in jail or has been locked up. so essentially, their baseline is much lower regarding being terrified of incarceration.

whites and others on the other hand and deathly afraid of imprisonment. umm...no duh...its your life you are sacificing. actually its more than that...at least if you die, its done and overwith, in jail you gotta wake up everyday look around and ask yourself "wtf?". especially in the US where there is tremendous opportunity to if not do well, at least do OK. Many people in other countries dont' even have that option.
