Anyone else glad they didn't become professional athletes?

When thinking about it being a pro athlete sounds great on paper but is it really all that? Playing sports was fun when you were a child but as an adult? Maybe once or twice a month is more than enough but pros play everyday pretty much for 10+ months a year. That sounds like torture and for most sport it is since you get injuries and joint problems very fast. Making millions was just not worth it for me since I'd be a cripple at the end of my career. Anyone?

The average MLB career is 5.6 years. In the NFL it's 3.3 years. Nobody's doing this full time until normal retirement age.

The thought of playing basketball for 35 mins couple times a week for my job sounded appealing when I was 17 years old and full of energy. At 31, that sounds like hell and im at top 1% physical shape for my age

because your likely in terrible cardiovascular shape..

i'm sure if you were making millions to stay in shape, you would be and playing sports into your later years wouldn't be a problem

but as you said you spent majority of your life being morbidly obese.

so you can't really compare yourself to people who been athletes all their lives, especially as an officecel

No Ive been athletic lean most of my life. My fat fuk era only lasted a couple years. I don’t make ball dribbler money but make good money now. Athletes are blowing out Achilles and hamstrings everyday these days. And it’s not easy having to perform in front of millions of eyeballs day in day out. Being yelled at some fgt coach everyday. Cant even date and go out in public normally. A lot of these athletes are just sleeping around with prositutes that other men would have access to if they had money as well. Getting with a groupie or random instahoe could be career ending. Then u got family relationship issues with ppl wanting ur money.

Yeah, doing something normal people do for fun while getting paid millions of dollars for a few years before spending the rest of my days slamming sloots and traveling the world seems fucking awful.

I really dodged a bullet by being pretty good but not quite that good at most sports.

My neighbor played pro football and is now an analyst.

His athleticism is insane and he said he was a complete pyschopath during the season with respect to preparation.

And he was an average player at best.

Most "normies" have no clue what it takes to play pro sports, half of this forum cannot even be bothered to make their bed and get a job.

Wanted it badly as a youth/teen. Got 2nd in the country middle distance (youth) and even lucky enough to get a us olympic coach that had moved here to marry a swedish lady. And he became like a second dad tbh.

Speed was horrible, but really wanted to get better at the 400 m, so trained mostly sprinting a few months and lowered myself from 54 to sub 49 (relay) - never felt so right and just like flying. Then got injured and doctors said 50/50 i’d get worse if operate.

No chance of making money in track tho unless you're usain bolt, but it wasn’t about that.

i know a few pro athletes, one now retired cried to me one time about how he missed his daughters entire childhood since they were on the road 10 months of the year. Can't go out to eat without people coming up to talk to him or wanting a photo, so really can never leave the house in gym shorts and a Tshirt or will be getting judged for 'looking like crap'. He now spends every moment with his grand children getting what he missed 30 years ago.

I dont think he would do anything different, but its a much harder life than people imagine in the sense you dont live a normal life, aside from the physical toll it puts on the body as OP noted.

From google AI :

The average NHL career is roughly 4.5 to 5 years. However, league longevity is heavily skewed: about 75% of NHL players have brief careers lasting 2 years or less, while the remaining 25% of top-tier players enjoy extended careers averaging around 12

The average MLB career lasts about 2.7 to 5.6 years, depending on whether the average or median is used. Because long careers by superstars skew the numbers upward, the median career is much shorter

The average NBA player's career lasts approximately 4.5 to 4.8 years. [1] While the careers of superstars can last well over a decade, this average is kept relatively low due to the high turnover of fringe roster spots, injuries, and the extreme physical demands of the sport

The average NFL player's career spans roughly 3.3 years. This brief timeframe is heavily influenced by the league's physical demands, high injury rates, and fierce competition

Most pro athletes, the vast majority, only play for a few years. The initial years salary isn't typically great, dont look for the break out stars. Most make a few hundred grand a year for 3-5 years and then their out. Its not enough to last a life time, and then they have to work some normal job that they aren't setup for. Lot of them are in denial about being a middle of the pack player and dont realize they'll only last a few years and blow their money quick.

I was drafted by all 3 major sports organizations (MLB, NFL, NBA) straight out of high school with huge signing bonus offers but I chose to decline all of them after realizing professional athlete wasn't for me so I could sit at home and be a professional miscer.

Pretty happy with my choice
"One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."

now do the thousands of other athletes with top tier genetics that get paid hundreds of thousands at the bare minimum to play sports for a few hours a day.

Yes, what I said in my post, hundreds of thousands for 3-5 years. Its not that much big picture in life.. Delusions are deep for you. There are very few gifted athletes that have long careers, but those that do are dripping in money and women, sure. That is not the bulk of professional athletes. I dont know why you take that as such a slight. You must really worship men in spandex tackling each other.
