Mandelson Files-Trump Wanted His Own Red Box

It was known that Peter Mandelson and Morgan McSweeney spoke regularly, and there are plenty of conversations between the two in the latest files. One, for example, is about the process of getting a custom red ministerial-style box for Donald Trump as a present for the president on his state visit last year. Mandelson shared his frustration at a lack of progress with McSweeney 28 August 2025 - less than a month before Trump arrived in the UK.

The disgraced former ambassador wrote: "the saga goes on. See Olly [Robbins, former FCDO civil servant] email.  "This is like something out of Thick of it. We are now facing the red box being presented by ... after... with... I have gone tonto on this."
