Did anyone watch The Devil Wears Prada 2
some people call it a chick flick. But I’m feeling a little curious. I watched Part 1 last night for the first time (yeah, I’m 20 years late on that one) - and I found it to be a very good movie. It’s funny , and the 3 main female leads + Stanley Tucci did well. Meryl Streep is an icon, and Anne Hathaway is one of the prettiest actresses of all time
It’s already done about $660M at the box office. Tomorrow is the last day that my local theater is showing it, so I think I’ll go tomorrow
Anyone see it?

I saw it.
It’s too long and the plot kinda sucks but you get some good moments out the three main leads.
I think if you saw the first one 20 years ago and then saw this new one, you’ll like it because you’ve waited so long.
But because you just saw the first one for the first time recently, this is going to be a bit of a a let down.

I went to see "The Devil Wears Prada 2" on 06/03/2026. I'm actually disappointed
In full disclosure, I watched the original 2006 movie for the first time just 2 days prior, on 06/01/2026. And I liked it very much. I gave the original 2006 movie a strong 8.0/10 rating. Since I watched the original just 2 days prior, I couldn't help but compare Part 2 with the original. And I don't have the 20-year built-up nostalgia that others do
Anyways - the movie's main upside is the strength of the four main leads -- Hathaway, Streep, Blunt, and Tucci. Each gives a decent performance.
20 years might have passed, but Hathaway is still quite pretty. Looking at her on-screen, I sometimes found myself thinking, "man, I wish she were my girlfriend." Streep doesn't look noticeably older, as well.
On a subtle layer, the movie seems to capture the same exact vibe as Part 1 did, with the visuals, soundtrack, and general presentation. Though I may not be much of a fashion guy, I often found myself admiring some of the glamorous outfits that the ladies wear throughout this movie.
That's really all the good I can say though ...
Again, the 4 leads give decent performances. But the major knock is that each performance, while still good, is a massive step-down from the original 2006 movie.
Hathaway's character basically recycles the slapstick-esque sequences from the original, where she gets all hyper and jittery as she runs around to complete some urgent task.
Streep's character doesn't have the same level of mystery and nuance as she did in the original: She got nominated for an Oscar for her role in Part 1; she won't get a nomination this time.
Stanley Tucci's pep talks with Hathaway get repetitive. Emily Blunt feels a little wasted (she disappears for stretches more than once), and her role in the finale doesn't feel convincing or satisfying
The movie is nowhere near as funny as Part 1 is. The only parts that I found a little funny were the cafeteria and airplane scenes ... related to that point - the movie doesn't have the same sharply-written lines that Part 1 did. There's nothing here on the level of Miranda's cerulean monologue in Part 1.
This movie is only 10-minutes longer than the 2006 movie, but it feels much longer. By the time Part 2 reached the 90-minute mark, I was ready for things to wrap up. In contrast, Part 1 flew by when I watched it. Some scenes feel ultimately wasteful. The staircase exchange between Hathaway and Streep function mostly as fan service.
There's too much dry stuff involving the CEO Irv, budget constraints, and company structure etc. I much preferred the discussion about the changes in consumer habits from 2006-present (e.g. they don't have physical magazines anymore, and luxury retail is the only profitable department etc.)
Outside of Hathaway, Streep, Blunt, and Tucci- all of the characters are forgettable and dull. There's a fat dude named Charlie, an Indian girl who works as Miranda's first assistant, and an Asian girl named Jin Chao who works as Hathaway's personal assistant -- all 3 characters try to be funny numerous times; none are sucessful.
Hathaway has a romance subplot with some generic landlord guy with an accent, and Miranda's husband gets some screen time too. By the time I left the theater, I literally forgot what both of those guys looked like: they're just so generic. Lady Gaga has a cameo with a little music video. I could've done without it.
Lucy Lui plays some big-shot wealthy woman. For the huge role that Lucy Lui's character plays in the story, I feel that the movie needed to develop her character much mroe. As it is, I feel that we hardly get to know her. I got the sense there may have been several deleted scenes with Lucy Lui's character.
4.0/10.
