The Wayans are FAR from conservative but have always poked fun at all sides of the spectrum. The entire point of the movie was to bring back old-style comedy before everything became offensive.
Actually looking forward to seeing it, especially if it's more like Scary Movie 1 or 2.

The first 2 weren't even that good. I saw the first one at the theaters in the summer of 2000. When we walked out, the first comment was, "That was the worst movie I've ever seen." I also checked out some of the trailers - it looks terrible

The fear of getting the shit kicked out of you by the person you trust to keep you safe and love is not a good motivator in the long run, but that is only my opinion.

I saw 2026's "Scary Movie" at the theaters on 06.05.2026. I went to see it despite the negative reviews (30% on Rotten Tomatoes). In the end, I think the movie isn't as bad as the critics say: it's not great, but it's not unwatchable either. It has its fair share of well-done moments. At the very least, I think the movie is worth seeing for yourself. Don't let the critic response block you from going
As a disclaimer -- I belong to the presumed target audience: I was one of the many people who went to see the original Scary Movie in the summer of 2000. I can't say that I loved the 2000 movie, nor would I call myself a big fan of the franchise. But I confess that, over time, the 2000 movie became associated with my childhood, and I felt a tinge of nostaglia when I think about it. I suppose that nostaglia influenced my less-than-negative response to the movie, but so what? ... as I said, I belong to the presumed target audience for this movie.
The movie does a lot right. The best moments are the ones involving the returning foursome from the first two movie -- Cindy, Brenda, Shorty, and Ray. The four of them offer some decent comedy at times. But more importantly, I felt a warm and fuzzy nostaglic feeling when they first appear, as I began to fondly recollect the Y2K era.
I'd never liked the vulgar, puerile comedy in the first 2 movies, with all the jokes centered on genitalia, graphic sex, and drugs. But again -- seeing that comedy style on the big screen once again, I began to feel that same warm and fuzzy nostaglia for the Y2K era. Without that nostalgia, I'd probably wince. With that nostaglia, I was hooked. I guess my experience helps demonstrate how this movie might be more welcoming to those who grew up watching the original. Newbies to the franchise won't like it. But those who connect this franchise to a long-gone era will find something dear.
There are several new cast members. The best one, by far, is Cindy's daughter, Sara Campbell. The actress does a really impressive job in replicating Anna Faris's voice delivery and mannerisms. I also like Tuesday and Jack. On the other hand - the movie includes Shorty's nephew and his romance interest too. Neither of them leaves much impression, and their comedic scenes fall flat.
Many comedic scenes work --- I like the opening sequence involving a certain big-name actress who appears ala Carmen Elektra in Part 1. There are some funny scenes with the nurse who tends Tuesday in the hospital. There are some great spoofs of John Wick, Get Out, Longlegs, and Sinners.
Not all of the comedy works, however. I didn't like the spots where characters talk to the camera, and I didn't like the K-Pop music video.
The spoofs of Candyman, Weapons, the Substance, and The Terrifier aren't funny. Some of those spoofs feel lazy, as if they put those parts just to say "Here, we spoofed them." For example, the Weapons spoof is basically, "Some kids took drugs, and now they're running about." It's not clever or witty, and it feels like something anybody can write in 5 minutes. Where's the ingenuity or humor?
The Substance spoof involved too much clowning by Ghostface. And that's something that the movie badly overdoes. Seeing Ghostface dance, laugh, and behave like a fool can be funny. But only in minimal doses. The act gets worn out quickly. And by the 2nd or 3rd time Ghostface starts dancing, I was over it.
The first two movies of this franchise didn't go too deeply into politics, but this one does, with references to immigration, Me Too, gender pronouns, and even January 6th. I found the political stuff to be weak. It's basically the kind of lazy, unoriginal content that you could find on a typical day on Twitter. The movie has some jokes about Covid that are 4-5 years too late
5.5/10.
