In Singapore, they beat the dogshit out of scammers. It resolved these issues quickly and efficiently.

I had assumed it was to keep the pump running somehow, so after someone filled up and left, the pump was still on and charging, so the next person could get a free fillup... but then I actually thought deeper and asked the robit.

So possibly a scam we don't understand, or the tiktoker was making a meme vid mocking them, who knows.

The only way it would benefit the service station would be if they just pump the fuel out of the pump back into the reservoir while charging your card. I'm pretty sure most pumps I've been around have timers that prevent the pump from working a short time after it clicks off full.

A friend use to own a fuel tanker business and service station, he told me fuel pump calibrations are checked by some sort of govt agency but they only check that they're calibrated to 5 gallons. So people could modify the pump that after 5 gallons its starts to short you. I just choose to avoid p@j33t owned gas stations, because I know they're out to screw you.

I strongly suspect that the screws are ALREADY in the gas thingy, thus the confusion.

Not sure why but it might be to read magnetism when the nozzle is back on or something. Most likely event is that you forget your card and the next guy behind you uses your card to pay anyways.

just pay in cash...best way to avoid skimmers/scammers.
