Did anyone go to camps when they were a kid during the summers?

I was watching Sleepaway camp the other night, and it got me thinking if any miscers went to any summer camps when they were kids.

Obviously, I'm sure their experiences wouldn't be like the movie at all, but it seems like summer camps or camps in general were huge back in the 70's to mid 2000's.

Now I can't imagine them even being popular anymore especially the ones for a whole summer or even 2 weeks. I'd just picture Gen Z or Gen Alpha being on their phones the whole time, and even if there was a strict no cellphone policies except for emergencies most kids nowadays would flat out refuse to go.

So did anyone go to any camps/summer camps when they were younger, and how long was it for, and did you like the experience?

Only type of camp I went were soccer camps, but those were only for a week and for the day, and then we would go home since the camp was only about 30 mins away for most of the kids.

Went to a cultie Christian camp where the effective brainwashing was generations and generations deep.

I am glad I got to experience the illusion of disconnection. It makes the sensation of connection that much greater.

I believe it is why we are here.

Just once. I was very young. All I remember is hanging out with a bunch of other kids and going to a water park but before we went they brought us all into this log cabin building and made us change into our swimming trunks in front of everyone. I was scared to get naked. Nobody else seemed to give a fuck.

I've been to ban camp like any real Miscer.

One time at ban camp...

You know Mario went to Michael's Neverland Ranch.

As a kid, when to a day camp but never overnight but it was quite common back then for some kids to be gone for a full month or more. Got to send the kids off while the parents did cocaine swinger parties. They openly gay boy scout leaders became a thing and now nobody goes.

For like 2 years when i was like 11 but it wasn't sleep away camp.. it was basically a glorified day care for the summer.

Mainly did different arts and crafts, play sports and go to the pool

edit: i'm also in a city tho, i assume you did a lot of outdoors shit or sleep away was more common in rural areas

Kids don't even play outside in their neighborhoods any more. There's 0 chance of camps being successful now
"One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."

Went to a swim camp from 4-7 and then sport camps. Feel bad for this generation if they aren't going to camps, great social training to throw a 7 year old into a sea of randoms and compete day and night, srs.

Negative. But I always wanted to go to camp. Family did not have the means to send me away. In the 5th grade, they had a school field trip away at a camp for a weekend. It was the closest I came to "camp" and I had a blast and always felt I missed out. Now that I am a father, I would send my kids to camp if they wanted to go. There is a "sailing camp" that is down the street from me that is 8-4 m-f that teaches kids how to sail. I would be stoked to send my kid to something like that.

Been to a massive boy scout camp that was pretty cool. Shot guns/bows and arrows, did some canoeing etc. Also did another camp that was kinda hardcore, we hiked a chit ton, crossed a river, slept outside, this girl had a .22 revolver that she used to kill a pig and then we dug a hole and barbequed the pig in it. Good camps are a premium childhood experience

Sounds alpha af but clearly none of it rubbed off on you, you got KO'd by a fellow officecel within seconds of the first round of a charity boxing match and started going bald in your 30s...

Bro I keep telling you balding isn’t hereditary on the fathers side

I can have kids and it’s unlikely they suffer the same fate as me in terms of hair loss

Hahaha I know you’re joking that’s what I love about this site

I did day-camps and Vacation Bible Schools when I was younger, parents would drop us off at the crack of dawn and then pick us up in the evening, rinse and repeat every week day for pretty much the whole Summer
Have fun and be yourself :-)
