Just got back from Disclosure Day
seems like steven spielberg went full board trolling in his old age and somehow still pulled it off
movie was like a cock tease, females aesthetic, male actors goobers to save money
I liked the music score
My wife liked it way better than me

Watched it on shrooms yesterday.
I enjoyed the entertainment aspect of it even though that is not why I watched it.
subtle but significant truths hidden in layers and layers of propaganda, gnostic symbolism everywhere.
The way they displayed aspects of human psychology was very interesting to me. I feel like they did a good job there. Again, telling a story that has been told countless times over thousands of years.

I kind of wish they didn’t actually show the alien at the end. It didn’t really do much for the story and kind of took some of the mystery away.
Although I do like the idea of there being a legit divinely anointed partnership between the man and woman, which is one thing I took from that little ceremony.

It started out with potential but I was disappointed that it ended up being
just an adam and eve story but God is the slimy grey aliens. The man (adam) whose "gift" was having a direct connection to God (aliens) and understanding him, and the woman eve (the helpmeet) whose gift was communicating with the creation/humanity and passing on the adam characters channeling from God. It felt like Spielberg consulted reddit for an alien movie and went with a recycled concept.

I decided to watch "Disclosure Day" on 06/15/2026. It's alright, but not great.
It isn't too boring. In many ways, it often reminded me of the underrated Will Smith movie "Enemy of the State" (though overall, Disclosure Day is not nearly as good as that movie). A few moments are exciting, such as the train scene and the car scene in the farmhouse.
But whereas Enemy of the State contains a lot of clever and cool moments, the cat-and-mouse scenes in this movie often seem dumb once you stop and think about it.
Example: a team of highly trained agents go to a barn to capture Josh O'Connor and his girlfriend. In a wide open field, he manages to sneak up literally right behind them just by walking and crouching. They never see him in that open field? They never look behind them? They don't hear his footsteps and movements? Not even when he gets in a car and slams the door? The scene strains credulity.
There are many scenes involving some alien object, shaped like a baton. We never really learn what that object is, but it gives people powers to do all sorts of stuff, ranging from clairvoyance and mind-control to invisibility and electricity.
By the end, it really felt as if that alien object was some lazy device that allowed the characters do whatever the writers needed for the plot. And it produces some silly scenes. The main bad-guy uses the alien object to basically turn into Charles Xavier from X-men.
I like Emily Blunt's performance. Her character basically obtains alien powers, which allows her to do all sort of stuff like read people's minds or speak unknown languages. She's convincing in her delivery and expressions during those scenes.
Josh O'Connor's character is kinda bland, but he neither hurts nor benefits the movie. Colman Domingo is OK ... Wyatt Russell's character was not needed, and the movie rightfully kicks him to the curb early enough. Colin Firth as the bad guy is basically any generic villain that we've seen before in these kinds of movies
The movie makes an effort to be profound, with messages about the media, government, knowledge, and religion. These messages often fail to hit its mark, especially the religious messaging with the nun. I think the movie needed to flesh out the villain's motivations more. Why was it such a problem for them to have the info released?
The movie is about 20-30 minutes too long. The finale goes on too long, and I think it shows more than we needed. The found-footage clips are spoiled by some annoying news anchor lady, who gives unneeded remarks as the clips play. There's some weak CGI at times. The aliens, like foxes and deer, look too fake
5.5/10.
