The conditions that lead to the psychological traits exhibited by this behavior are a direct result of how society is deliberately constructed.

We fight each other over stupid shit and are torn because that is advantageous to the institution.

Primarily the capitalist ideas of competing for resources as if that is necessary or even part of human nature, and perceived lack of resources.
