That's not an engineering problem or failure. I doubt an engineer specified for the structure to be cracked. This looks more like a metallurgical issue (cheap Chinese metal), and since all these structures are usually made in China and only assembled here in the US, I'm gonna have to point out that your inference of "muh DEI", is incorrect.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

I know nothing about the amusement park ride industry but you think those massive structures are built in China and shipped to the USA? Its possible but I doubt it.

Yes. In pieces. Which are then assembled and either bolted or welded on site. But the crack doesn't seem to be at a welded joint, which leads me to believe the issue was either in the casting, or with the raw steel itself.

The most ridiculous part of the story is the dumb fucks at the park who wouldn't shut it down until the fire department showed up

It seems like large items like this are usually engineered, and built in the USA but I could be wrong. Our business is construction and some of our equipment is large structures that could compare to an amusement park ride, they're all built in the USA.

Engineered, yes. Built, not so much, some is and that's great, but most is just made in China and assembled here unfortunately.
