Instead of rotting at home and feeling down with nothing to do, I like being outdoors and getting paid

It is the highlight of my weekend

i remember a cool math teacher in 8th grade that also worked at toys r us after school. had a big mustache, slightly overweight, bed head hair and wore old looking/faded/stretched out jeans/polos with completely worn out solid black walmart sneakers that you might see warehouse workers wearing. laid back and funny dude but i think he had some health problems...maybe diabetes.

My wife has been working 7 days a week for at least a month now. She works fulltime 5 days a week and got a second job working in the weekend. Kinda mirin srs. Maybe I'll join her, you can't ever have enough money after all. But I feel I need that rest though to recuperate.

Mirin, in some countries you get tax breaks on a second job in order to motivate people to work. It's the case for my wife. She nets her gross wage pretty much on her weekend job. It's a shitty retail job but she nets about 100bucks a day on those weekend days over 6 hour shifts. Kinda mirin her work ethic and chasing her dreams. I also encourage you to keep it up bro.

I don't necessarily work 7 days a week but I've averaged about 50 hours a week for a long time. Used to work closer to 60h a week. I'm a cop. My off duty gigs are typically pretty easy. I don't necessarily need the money but I invest a shit ton. Between Pension plan, 457B and Roth IRA its about 20% of my income. Toss another 5% into Crypto and about 5% into a regular brokerage and I'm investing 30% of my take home pay. I set out with a goal of retiring in my 40s and I'm on track to do that. Will be peacing out at 49.


I plan on spending October-May at home so we can do the big family holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, Memorial day, New years day, etc. at home with family. I'll also take those months to just focus on hunting & fishing 3-4 days per week depending on what's in season.


Off months in my 50s I plan to spend living in SE Asia and South & Central America. Once I hit my 60s I expect my portfolio will be quite large. At that point I'll shift off months to living in Europe. When I hit my 70s I'll research whatever area has the best healthcare/life-style for older people and live their permanently.

Just 9 years out and so fucking ready to make it happen.

I've never worked slave hours, but if I had a clear reason to and a great goal within reach, I'd consider it. I can't imagine being a guy who "never made it" sacrificing all of my time to continue not making it. Probably better to just be a rotter in that case

What are slave hours though? Like minimum wage? It’s a spectrum and not black and white. For example some carpenters get paid pretty well, and the work in the moment sucks, but at the end you look at what you built, makes you feel good.

Yeah, I often say I actually wouldn't mind working if workdays were 5 (or max 6) hours. It's good to have some routine and not have TOO much free time, but past the 5 or 6 hour mark is when shit generally starts to drag and is cutting into your free time a little too much.
