Seriously what's the deal. China has more people and more money. Other countries have just as many resources right?
Yet USA always dominates the medal tally

Well, it's the biggest country there with China and Russia, although much bigger population than Russia. Has most money too since China's wealth is kind of concentrated and majority is poor there. Have in mind USA is made of 50 states. If you count EU as a one country too, it has the same size as USA, but much, much higher medal tally. Last olympics, just top 3 EU countries had more medals than USA, let alone if you count all the other states in Europe too.

The US is the 3rd most populous nation.
And the largest in population of the 1st world nations.
And there's presumably more swimming pools, gyms, tracks, more athletic programs and events per capita in the US.
And more people participating in them.
More people with the money to participate and really dedicate training to.
World class training facilities, programs and coaches.
All of which contribute to a larger pool of gymnists, swimmers, track, and other athletes from which Olympic class athletes rise from.

There are a few reasons.
1) There is a wider range of people in the united states (ethnically, lineage, etc.) than almost any other country. That's why you have people like simone biles and michael phelps, while other countries may only have one or the other (or none).
2) Sports are more important in the states and sports are also diverse in that there are plenty that can be played all over the country because you can get russian cold weather and also ecuador hot weather in different states at the same time.
Compare any random group of americans to a random group of brits and you will likely find that if there are athletic people, the americans are more likely to participate in a wider range of sports while the british group will participate in mostly the same sport or sports.
this is 99% bro-science, but it's probably true.

Firstly, you are a large country with more people to choose from for every sport than a lot of other countries. So in general you are going to do well, hence the medal tally.
Secondly, less generally speaking, you got knocked out of the running for a medal in the women's rugby sevens today, and that's far from the only thing you are not winning in.

The U.S. has a larger variety of people from all over the world. It's basically a melting pot of the entire world.

Surely if I can understand why a country might do worse at a sport that's not that popular in your country you can understand why having a huge amount of people to choose from leads to more good athletes?
Edit: to clarify its not so much a bubble burst , I don't like rugby and wouldn't watch it outside of the Olympics. But it's been entertaining watching it in the small doses that happen in the Olympics. If I catch the men's games I'm sure it will be even better.
Edit again: also, sorry, I thought you were op, that's why I attributed some things to you that you never said.

Per capita you guys are actually one of the worst countries for medals lol.
Outside of U.S sports you guys kinda suck at a lot of international sports.
