Will you spank your kids or no?

After reading some of the responses in the abusive father vs cuck father thread, I was wondering if you guys would spank/paddle/belt/whatever corporal punishment or just verbally admonish/time outs?

I'm for sure in the spanking/belt/whatever camp. My folks did it, within reason, and it helped shaped the man i am today. Many of the people I know who were never spanked or whatever grew up to be complete brats who are selfish af and don't care much about consequences. Many don't as well, but of my friends who are more entitled and whatnot, the large majority of them weren't spanked vs those that were spanked.


tl;dr: spank or no?



EDIT: Did your childhood punishments affect how you are going to punish your children? i.e. if you were spanked, did that cause you to spank or not spank your kids and vice versa

I definitely condone disciplining a child, corporal punishment included.

But there's a fine line,
I'd never beat my kids the way my parents did my siblings and myself.
A smack or a knock in the back of the head is totally different than a 15 min beating with a switch you had to pick from outside

First Generation problems though.

I'll just leave this here. Spanking doesn't have even close to the effect people think it does. And lets be honest, any time you lay hands on your kid is just an expression of your own anger and frustration, not a level headed punishment. I used to be in the "a little smack here and there will do them good" camp, but it doesn't. There's no benefit to it.

paddle dat ass crew. when i was a kid i got a good swat and learned my lesson real quick. and dont let that **** happen in a restaurant or public place. if i had to get dragged out to the car or into the bathroom when we were out i knew it was game on.

depends. i have two children and they both respond to discipline differently. my eldest knows that he will get spanked when he misbehaves and threatening him with a spanking is usually a good deterrent. my youngest in a smart ass and spanks just make him more angry and belligerent, so i usually have to take things away from him in order for him to listen

I'm not flaunting anything, I'm offering a counterpoint to what I know will be 3 pages of miscers saying getting spanked turned them into real men. You sound extremely defensive, I'm guessing you either spank your kids or plan to spank your kids? Spank your kid, I don't give a fuk. It's within a parents rights. Like I said I was spanked and hit and used to think that I would do the same.

Kids aren't the same, just like adults aren't the same though. Some will respond better to a swat on the ass when he or she is acting up, while another won't and you'll have to ground/take something away from them in order to get the point across as evidenced by Bassackwards's post above yours.

A good parent will figure out the best way to get through to the kid, and if a flick on the fingers or a smack on the leg does the trick then so be it.

Undecided about spanking. I posted in that other thread, I was hit until I moved out for college. What pisses me off is all these wannabe hardazzez who think theyre teaching their kids lessons when they never went through being seriously hit growing up

srs though, I understand there are some studies that do say things of that nature showing that there is not much positive effect, but also there are studies that prove otherwise, and the key factor behind my thinking (and my parents thinking) is the biblical "spare the rod, spoil the child."
