So after 20+ years I've basically quit lifting. AMA.

Been lifting since late teens.
Now 43
Viewed it as a horribly boring chore for the last 20 years
Now I concentrate on cardio more (cycling on rollers)
Still lift a tiny amount after ever cardio session, to avoid acute atrophy

So far I feel more positive about going into the gym and no longer give many phucks about it.

I have been lifting for about 13 years. I have gotten away from lifting just for looks to lifting for sport, incorporating more 'functional fitness' stuff and the change has kept me interested in lifting a lot!

Your choice man I get it. Maybe come back to lifting when you feel burned out of what you do now.

Why did you do it for 20 years if it was so boring? Also, you seem pretty big, did getting bigger not increase your confidence? Sometimes i want to stop lifting for a while because of my busy schedule but getting smaller would suck for my life

Kudos to you for sticking to something that felt like a drag for so long. There's no worse feeling than going to lift when you can't be bothered. Be interesting to see if and how much your physique changes from switching to a more cardio based routine.

it sucks that you haven't liked doing it for so long. Maybe after a long break you may start to enjoy it again. I just hit 42 but I look forward to lifring, it's one of the few things I do where my mind isn't in a million different places.

Maybe try kettlebells. They're an awesome cardio workout but do still engage the muscles. I've just started using them myself. Tired of aching joints from lifting weights so having a break for a while. I still get pretty pumped from kettlebelling though and I sweat my large bollocks off.

No, never wanted to become a tradie.

How would I have told my parents for a start? They would have disowned me!

Back when I started my career, it wasn't like it is today where people have 'coming out as a tradie' parties.

Das it mane. I still lift but I feel far more 'liquid' in my approach and no longer feel chained to the same old routine. I pretty much do what I feel like so long as all body parts get hit at least once per week.

Must spread some rape around before giving it to HarryFlashman.

I came from kettlebells originally, not ****gy commercial classes but old school lifts and complexes and stuff.

Just recently gone back to them too, pat flynn's birth of a hero met con is the chit. Twice a week pick 6 complexes and do 2 sets of each, and once a week single rep strength.

Absolutely brutal if you can do all the lifts properly and never felt better, perma-pump and abs coming through.

Take up swimming instead.
You'll keep most of your gains as long as you lift once/twice a week and its way better for your joints than other forms of cardio
