Perils of Perception - or - how bad all of you are at guessing [e.g. % of Muslims]
This is an interesting little example of how bad most of us are at making good estimations, especially when it comes to topics that trigger emotions.
A popular topic on the MISC is muslim population and amongst the far-right MISCers (so basically most of you) this is associated with fear of alleged terrorism, Sharia Law, and whatnot.
Average guess of how high the muslim population is:
- Americans guessed on average 15%, its actually 1%
- Brits guessed 21%, its actually 5%
- Germans guessed 19%, its actually 6%
- French guessed even 31%, when its actually 8%

Maybe food for thought to some.
