More cholesterol bloodwork. Das not it mane.

Went two months ago and my numbers were:

HDL = 11
LDL = 228
Total cholesterol = 265

Doc told me to clean up my diet and wanted to recheck in six weeks, because he couldn't believe it was really that bad at 31 years old (especially since I'm not in bad shape)

New results:

HDL = 16
LDL = 237
Total cholesterol = 294

He wants to put me on cholesterol meds asap and says I should cut out all red meat, eggs and whole milk (just LOL at thinking I'd do that).

Any other brahs have similar numbers? What did you do?

1) what is the normal range?
2) why don't you try what he suggested for 6 weeks and then do another test?

Considering a good HDL level (good cholesterol) would be above 40 and a high total cholesterol is 240 or above, I'd say your doc is right. But good luck with your clogged artery goals for 2017.

Get on cholesterol meds ASAP srs. LDL is way too high and HDL is way too low.

Healthy range: LDL <120, HDL 40>

anything below 200 is a healthy range if its between 200 and 240 its borderline. The op is well above that.

Sorry op, but you don't need dietary cholesterol to survive the liver makes it all on its own. Some people hit the genetic jackpot where their body properly regulates their cholesterol, but some people (like you) may need outside help. High blood pressure due to excess sodium intake is debatable but there's no room for debate when it comes to high cholesterol. You're just going to have to limit your meat to fish chicken breasts and egg whites (drink almond milk instead of dairy milk) and start eating more fiber (fruit/legumes/whole wheat breads/leafy greens) Cholesterol binds to fiber and allows you to chit it out of your body before it goes back into the blood stream.

You should be eating 50g of fiber per day. Thats high but only due to your circumstances. (for reference, most people struggle to get 10g/day when 25g is recommended.)

Who the **** are you to just generalize people by a stupid number,

If all these tests and med's were actually doing something, than why is heart disease actually on the rise.

Because you've been fooled and are stupid enough to believe it.

Normal day:

Smoothie for breakfast. Frozen fruit, skim milk, whey protein

Mid morning snack is usually a pastrami sandwich from the shop next to my office.

Lunch is always chipotle.

Afternoon snack is a Lenny and Larry cookie.

Dinner is usually hamburgers.

Post workout is a shake and froyo, then another burger.

Then just lots of creatine.

uh, those "numbers" are the result of over 100 years of medical research by peer reviewed blind tests, and its more or less universal for all humans world wide. The same applies to the 120/80 when referencing systolic and diastolic pressures. Blood work that produces numbers above those ranges statistically and consistently correlate with atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). If that continues the op could have an aneurysm which is when a major artery ruptures. When that happens you drop to the floor and you're dead within minutes.

I'm sure you already know where the faults in your diet lie.

but i'm going to point them out anyway;

-swap out pastrami with turkey or chicken.

-I guess chipotle is ok as long as you're using brown rice and beans/choosing chicken as your meat and cutting out the cheese and sour cream.

-If you're craving something sweet, that cookie can be replaced with fruit. Buy something that you like that is in season so you can eat a lot of it.

-hamburger(s) plural? yeah, thats gotta go. That entire meal should be replaced with beans and rice.

-post workout should be a rapidly absorbing protein replace the (yet another) burger with egg whites.

-and it really has nothing to do with your cholesterol but creatine is a waste of money. Stop buying it, and with the money you save, buy more healthy food.

The whole red meat and eggs thing is utter bullchit. There has been so much reversal in the last decade of red meat and eggs causing plaque ... i can't believe your doctor is pedaling that crap.

Chit fast food, grains, milk, and high carb diets are very suspect these days. I've read enough stuff for the last 20 years to point my finger at grains and milk being the two most common things thought to be healthy that are likely the biggest culprits in peoples lack of health. It isn't shocking that half of peoples stomach issues go away when you remove both of those. Especially milk... like 90% of the world is lactose intolerant to one degree or another... and still people chug that chit 24/7.

they've been raised, but only in the US. since the vast majority of americans are fat phucks they simply raised the bar on what is considered "normal" for fat phuck americans. Even when it comes to high blood pressure 135/90 is not considered borderline anymore, but for the rest of the world it still is.

That's a big jump in cholesterol. Did you go on a bulk recently?

I see too many guys go on a bulk and say, "I don't care about aesthetics. I just want to get strong brah." These potatoes need to realize that diet isn't just about getting big and strong vs. getting aesthetic. They completely ignore the health aspect and the fact that gaining a bunch of fat in a short period of time is unhealthy (the kind of stuff that they eat to bulk makes it even worse).

Hm, saturated fats in the diet is debatable, but I'm more than certain dietary cholesterol still raises cholesterol because you're still introducing cholesterol to the body. The liver isn't as smart as most organs, it doesn't have receptors that turn off or slow down production of the stuff if you're already getting it in abundance from your diet.

People in general don't have a clue what is healthy.

-Wooo whole wheat bagel... it says whole wheat muthafuka!
-Egg whites only... because yolk is bad!
-Ima get a healthy salad ... then smother it with ranch dressing!

Chit i know people that pat themselves on the back for their daily serving of vegetables .... eating fried rice.

It's funny... 90% of the dudes i've ever heard in a stall in the bathroom sound like they're blowing their lower intestine into the toilet. I guarantee almost none of them take a step back and go... "Maybe having stank, pasty, diarrhea chits every day is a bad sign?"

Nah, 200 has been the gold standard for as long as i've had interest in healthcare (a little over 10 years). That number has been the same, but they are more "script happy" to prescribe a drug like atorvastatin.

I'd consult with a dietitian who knows his chit and see if you can get them within normal ranges and then result to medication if no improvement
