GF won't let me buy a WRX

She says it looks too much like a kid's car and clients will never take me seriously.

She also says I'm not allowed to get a stick shift b/c I won't be able to manage kids in the backseat down the road while driving.

Does it really look like a kids car? Does anyone here with young kids drive stick daily?

Does it have one of those ridiculous wings on it? Wrx's have cheap plastic and you will notice tons of rattles as you own it long term. So if you do go that route, you would probably want to remove all the panels, install sound deadening (drone of the exhaust and road noise) and install foam to help the rattling.

Wait I just re-read. No stick? No thanks.

Tell your gf to fuk right off lol. Then light her hair on fire.

I got a 2017 WRX, love it to pieces. the new one looks much more refined than any of the previous generations. And you should be having to worry about handling your kids while you're driving...

you can get automatic if you really need to, but I've driven stick for years in SD/LA traffic and it's never really bothered me.

Yes you can drive stick when you have kids lmao. She doesn't get to decide what car you buy, she's your GF not your owner.

Also, please don't have kids. Will pay into a GoFundMe for a vasectomy for you with no hesitation.

I've had an S2000 for a decade, so I'm used to stick. The problem with the auto is that it puts it out of my price range, since you can only get those on the very top-end trim level.

man at that point, you might as well upgrade to the base STI cuz it'll cost you only a little more extra over a Limited with the CVT. Unless you buy a lightly used version, but you'll prob end up paying the same price as a brand new base, but with less warranty/peace of mind.

Do you ever need to drive people around in your car? If not, then I'd 100% say go for it, as it isn't at all bad looking externally, and doesn't have to be ricey/raceboy with a stock setup and minimal mods. If you are driving people around however, I'd say maybe look at another vehicle, as both the WRX and more so the STI are pretty stiff bumpy rides with a lot of wind/road noise.

Eh, for me it's base WRX or nothing. If I was going to spend $30k+, I'd just buy a Volvo S60 and call it a day.

I never drive people around. It's just the optics of what I'm seeing getting into and out of when I go meet people.

How bad is the road noise? I do a lot of distance driving and would like to at least be able to use my bluetooth while driving to talk on the cell. Right now in the S2000, the road and exhaust noise make that impossible.

mirin. Yeah I have the base too, only major upgrades from the base to the premium or limited are LED headlights, blackout headlight housing, heated seats, option for a sunroof, 1" bigger standard wheels (though you can probably haggle at the dealership to get the 18"s installed on a base), and leather interior in the limited.

Personally, the only options I really cared for were the LED headlights and bigger wheels, but the headlights weren't worth the jump in price for me, and the wheels that come on the limited/premium I would have replaced anyway with some aftermarket ones, so no biggie.

Would highly recommend the WRX, such a fun car to drive.

RE: the road noise, it's definitely present/noticeable when driving silently, but if I turn on the radio or use the bluetooth, it's more than mangeable

Also, as far as having people see your car when you get out, I notice people are pretty much always looking to watch me get out of my car. Whether they're impressed by how it looks, or checking to see whether I have a vape, IDK. but anyone I know who's seen it has said its a beautiful, clean car.

I know you're LA based, if you do get a WRX, PM me and we can work on our cars together
