Teen dies from drinking coffee, energy drink and Mountain Dew within 2 hours

https://www.yahoo.com/news/teen-coll...181620380.html
David Allen Cripe, 16, drank a McDonald’s cafe latte, a large Diet Mountain Dew and an unidentified energy drink before suffering a caffeine-induced cardiac event on April 26 in Chapin, South Carolina, a coroner said at a press conference on Monday.

He had to have something wrong with him. I would double dose jack3d when I was 16 after drinking a monster/Mountain Dew before and after workout.

Now I don't take anything other than pre workout for caffeine intake. Very rarely will I have a cup of green tea.

It was probably the energy drink. They are dangerous sometimes with weird chemicals in them.

What is that like 300-400Mg of caffeine? I could see that triggering a cardiac event, especially in a teen... stay safe.

I have to drink like eight shots of espresso just to get moving.

On the upside, I can use the Thu'um for about 20 minutes after.
Nah, fukk that. I’m not doing that.

That caffeine load is reminisce compared to the amount the older brahs got in their old pre-workouts

This doesn't pass the smell test. IIRC the ld50 for caffeine is 3-20 grams. He couldn't of had more than 500mgs. A lot of you caffeine junkies probably have that much for a pre workout.
we have not spent the last 65 million or so years finely honing our physiology to watch Oprah. Like it or not, we are the product of a very long process of adaptation to a harsh physical existence, and the past couple centuries of comparative ease and plenty are not enough time to change our genome. We humans are at our best when our existence mirrors, or at least simulates, the one we are still genetically adapted to live. And that is the purpose of exercise. - Mark Rippetoe

Jesus. I'm wondering if he had a heart condition of some kind, cause although that's a lot of caffeine in an hour, I wouldn't have thought it was a dangerous amount

Edit: wizards above me called it

Watts stopped short of describing David’s death as a caffeine overdose, but he stressed that caffeine played some kind of role in the teen’s death.
But, as Tara Haelle wrote over at Forbes, these reactions are really, really uncommon from beverages alone. (One expert told her: “I’ve never known of a case where somebody died from three caffeinated drinks.”)
Jeffrey Goldberger, a University of Miami cardiologist and expert on the health effects of caffeine, estimated the maximum potential amount of caffeine Cripe ingested from those three drinks was about 500 mg. “This would generally not fall into a range where people would say this is a lethal dose,” he said, adding that he was skeptical caffeine was the cause of death. Instead, he thinks there was probably another unrecognized health issue at play, or that this may just be one of the rare cases of sudden death at a young age.
Definitely an undiagnosed heart condition stressed by caffeine intake

142 mg of caffeine in a McDonald's Latte, around 150 mg in 1 liter of Mountain Dew, and around 160 mg in a Monster can, depending on the energy drink could be upwards of 300 mg.

I'll be generous with the estimations and say he took in 600 mg of Caffeine.
"It would likely take anywhere from 50-100 cups of coffee (5000-10000 mg) to result in a lethal dose of caffeine," Glatter said.
So this kid was about 4400 mg shy of a fatal dose.

Every single time a kid dies from caffeine it's from a preexisting heart condition. Then the parents get up in arms about caffeine and other drinks.

Guess what: 90% of the population consumes these things with no issues. Just another example of a minority trying to force their policy on others.

It said his heart was fine, also
“It’s not just that this kid had too much coffee,” she told HuffPost. “This kid also had an energy drink.”
Some such drinks contain combinations of ingredients that can prove harmful, and in some cases even fatal, Schneider warned.
“In an energy drink, there’s much more than caffeine. They have all these other ingredients ― like taurine, that acts like caffeine, [and] guarana, which actually potentiates caffeine,” she said. “I’m concerned with caffeine for sure, but at least with coffee, I sort of know what I’m getting: water and caffeine.”
