[CAUTION: FLORIDA] Teens film man drowning in a pond



COCOA, Fla. — Police said a group of teens filmed the dying moments of a 32-year-old man last week, mocking, cursing and laughing as the man drowned in a pond.

The Brevard County (Fla.) State Attorney's office released the video to Florida Today, a member, like USA TODAY, of the USA TODAY Network, and called the incident a "tragedy" and the said the teen's lack of action had "no moral justification."

The minute-long video, which police called "extremely disturbing," found its way to social media and depicts the unidentified teens — ages 14 to 16 — off-camera, laughing as the man screamed for help before going under in the murky water just after noon on July 9. There were no calls to 911 from the teens.

Instead, police later found the badly decomposed body of the man — identified as Jamel Dunn — on July 12. Police said the man drowned and foul play was not suspected. More at link:

It's one thing to laugh when a man falls down or trips over something in a park while walking. It's an entirely different thing to laugh as a man dies. I don't know the kids, but this is obviously not normal. We have become so desensitized to death and suffering, collectively. If I had to guess, there is no strong father-figure in the teens' lives. Jesus come quickly.

Swimming is a basic skill. Kinda like walking. How you not know how to swim. Or at least float on your back or something.

I think it sucks that this dude died, and it's disgusting that these clowns filmed it and laughed while doing it. However swimming is one of the easiest, life saving things you can teach your children. If anyone doesn't know how to swim, I feel like their parents have failed them. "But I don't know how to swim either..." Take your kid and take the class with them. There's literally no excuse to not be able to swim.

I am not surprised by this. I used to lifeguard when I was younger at a lake that had water slides, high dives, etc. Pretty much EVERYDAY, we had to jump in and save someone from drowning. I am not kidding if I said I personally have saved at least 300 people from drowning in all my years.

People + water = stupid people. I saw grown men jump into the water (water slide or high dive) that is over their head knowing that they could not swim. Pulled them out and ask them why they did they, they just Bertstared you. I've seen parents send kids down waterslides knowing that their kid couldn't swim.

I didn't watch the video, but I would guess that he could 'somewhat' swim. Just enough to get into trouble. Was probably trying to cool down, got a little too far out and panicked.
