So this is what 1.5+ mil buys in my area

Looked for new houses built in a nearby suburb. They all have this square post modern styling and start at 1.5 mil and go up to 2. Didn't even want to look at the 'expensive' neighborhoods that have houses that start at 3+ mil.

How the hell do people afford housing these days? Looks like I am going to be an apartment dwelling pleb all my life. These families have to be clearing $300k+ a year. It sucks to be constantly reminded that you are poor. I should move to the midwest or some chit.

Looks like the new construction houses I saw in Australia.

But basically yeah you're on that #PlebLife unless you get a massive raise, get married, or buy affordable housing/off-market. California is a joke atm.

But the midwest is still very promising.

You gotta understand most people who buy sht like this probably had houses back when they were cheap and the value skyrocketed. That or inheritance.

Sure there are very successful people too but not everyone is a business owner pulling 500k

Looking around and every single house looks like this. It must be the new trend in construction or something. Older houses in terrible neighborhoods still cost like $500k+. I am talking places you wouldn't live in even if it was free. It is time to lay down and rot if you aren't some ceo 10k a day. I am old enough to realize I will never make that kind of money to buy a house built in the last 10 years. I think I should just take a trip to alaska and wander in the woods so I can die in peace among nature.

This is the cheapest new development areas. There are 'expensive' areas that cost 2x. How the hell are there are so many rich people that entire suburbs are filled with multi million dollar homes?

I remember when they raised the minimum wage here a few years back, all the rich people were livid and protested like crazy. It was a few cents raise per hour.

Aside from the last house, the rest look like something from an catalog or magazine. It has that ultra trendy yuppie feel to it. I like the brick work in the last one for sure though. I guess it is the style these days. Every single new home being built looks like this for some reason.

I work in real estate and it's sickening that I"m behind the curve, while people who had the dumb luck to sell in 2007 and buy in 2012 now look like geniuses and are borderline millionaires now.

It's still possible to build equity in a home but it's far more competitive these days, whether you're trying to be an investor or just a home owner. In northern california, I've seen multiple homes for sale with at least 10 offers and ALL of them over the already inflated list price. Like w0t.....

Might want to make the dive to the Midwest sooner than later as the transplants from the West Coast are skyrocketing the prices of land/houses there too, my house just jumped 50K in value the last year from this. I can tell you the living isn't bad in the Midwest takes some adjustment but there's a lot more room to roam around and have fun. If you still have that urge to be close to California look into the smaller towns bordering Reno as they're growing rapidly and real estate isn't too crazy yet.

But no jobs though. That's the only problem. If there were flourishing industries in the midwest I would have moved there a decade ago.

That's true but those places lack the same kind of job opportunities and lifestyles. I guess it is all a compromise.

Lots of corporations are migrating there soon as taxes aren't as high and not as many industrial restrictions. Brother bought a house in Dayton 2 years ago, now its already doubled in value as of 2 months ago. Plus greenery is legal now so it'll further drive up the economy as only several cities really benefit from Casinos.
