Never understood the love for them. I hate Cobain's voice and always found their songs to be so bland and chitty.

I'm guessing because anything was better than all the hair bands that were so popular until the instant nirvana came along.

Never liked Nirvana. Really bland music, all their songs sound the same. Grunge in general just sounds like doped out music stripped of melody. Still, grunge sounds like Mozart compared to a lot of modern music. At the same time, bands like Nickelback and Puddle of Mudd don't sound all that different from grunge to me either, they just recorded the same style in much fancier music studios.

Your question was how did they make it.

A huge part of it was feeling the climate at the time, like someone alluded above hair metal had been dominant and increasingly elaborate up to that point. It was sell outs and glitz.

Then this three piece who gave fuk all about looks came out. It's overplayed nonsense now, but I can not stress enough just how much of a lightning bolt "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was at the time. It was so fresh and new and spoke to a lot of people.

Tldr: the timing of Nevermind was as important as any song on it

Some of their stuff is catchy but for the most part theyre nothing special. I agree pearl jam mr bungle and AIC should definitely be the 90s front runners but somehow theyre second rate to nirvana who in all reality was mediocre on every front.

"What was so great about Good Wil Hunting??"

"Don't understand Nirvana"

It was a time, a place, and a motion. You had to be there. Can't you wrap your head around this concept? At the time, Kurt exemplified qualities that young people found absolutely magnetic, and he rocked.

it was a start of the grunge era, so many bands took after this sound, hell smells like teen spirit is still played on the radio today, plus Dave Grohl was and still is one of my favorite drummers, I was way young during their prime time rise but Nevermind is easily one of my favorite albums in my lifetime. But thats my own opinion I still love the other bands from the 90s, Red hot chilis, soundgarden, AFI, Radiohead, Pearl Jam, smashing pumpkins, NIN, RATM ( OG vocalist only )

but what separated these bands from nirvana had to be the delivery of the grungy sound

totally forgot cobain was a lefty~

but i think a lot of their attraction comes from Kurt's suicide, as bad as it sounds

were Nirvana pioneers of the grunge genre? absolutely. were they the best to ever do it? nah.

You don't have to be the most talented at a given point to be the biggest, like fuqdatass said they were fresh and gave the people what they wanted at the time. Look at garbage little Wayne and how big he was when much more talented rappers exist or garbage T-Pain with his auto tune nonsense.

Was born early 90s and Good Will Hunting is a great movie.. I just feel like another one of those grunge bands should have been in their place, all of those other bands i listed were at the same time more or less but actually had skill.

bro Kurt literally copied the main vocal melody of Smells like teen spirit and made it into the solo... Can you believe that lazy ass kunt?

I saw a video on Nirvana once a long time ago that showed him writing with his right hand, think he's a fake lefty which explains why he's so fuking uncoordinated at playing guitar
