Gym culture is so cringey

Gymshark, all these memes about no pain no gain, selfies in the gym, tatted up “tough guys”, etc... Better to have an identity outside of the gym and just workout and be fit in addition to that. Just lol if working out is your identity. So much cooler to be some anime nerd who is jacked rather than just some jacked guy thats jacked

I have friends that compete in fitness and physique. Many good people. But fitness culture started to be cringe worthy for me about 4-5 years ago.

Gym selfies are super cringey. Other than that, I don't really notice anything super cringey at my gym. I'm there to workout, not judge what people are wearing or if they have tats and stuff.

I agree 100%. Even just having tats while being jacked is cringey imo. And holy cringe at acting like lifting is some virtuous epic battle that can only be won through pain, struggle, hard work, and self sacrifice. Honestly bodybuilders and those who are into the "aesthetics" in my experience are the worst.

Man I'm just an IT guy nerd with glasses deep down. Most my MMA friends are tatted up tradies. Any of them or my competitors have always shown me respect.

Only time someone tried to make themselves feel above me was some random bber. But it's apples to oranges when you compare a sport where's you're 1v1 someone fighting and a subjective sport centered around looks.
