Lucid Dreaming (dreaming while knowing you're dreaming) is beyond amazing [100% SRS]

I wanted to open this thread a very long time ago but it didn't really fit in any of the other sub-forums including R&P, so I decided to do it here in the general MISC.

So... any lucid dreaming brahs on here? I'm talking about people who experienced the real thing and are familiar with terms like WILD, DILD, WBTB, etc.

To those unaware, lucid dreaming is when you realize you're dreaming while a dream is happening, allowing you to influence the environment, and, depending on many factors, significantly control much of your surroundings. It is an absolutely amazing, indescribable state of mind. Anyone who experienced the real thing knows how breathtaking it is, in all seriousness. I discovered it in my teens (long story), practiced it intensely, and religiously kept a dream journal in which I'd write down many of those lucid dreams. Basically, you are in the dream environment with the knowledge that you're in bed - asleep - and that your surroundings are not reality. Think of it as the best virtual reality you can imagine, with unbelievably vivid colors, touch/sight/smell, and realism in general. However, the state of "lucidity" has varying degrees, and you can be more or less lucid during a dream. Also, high lucidity doesn't equal high realism nor a high level of dream control, and vice versa, and this is pretty complex stuff. To anyone interested in the subject, "Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming" by Stephen LaBerge is a must read book. LaBerge is the founder of the lucidity institute and has scientifically validated lucid dreaming many years ago. This is not pseudoscience and it's also not "astral projection" either. And most of the stuff on YouTube about the subject is terrible, with some exceptions. This is a fantastic read to get a basic understanding of things:http://www.lucidity.com/LucidDreamingFAQ2.html

I'll leave it right here because I don't know if people are interested at all in learning more. If they are, then I'll post more and simplify some of the actual methods of inducing LDs, going into detail. Also, feel free to ask me anything about it.

Cliffs:

- Lucid dreaming is a state of consciousness in which the dreamer knows he is dreaming while he's dreaming
- It is not "astral projection", nor is it pseudoscience, and it has been scientifically validated by Stephen LaBerge
- It's something that anyone can achieve with determination/practice
- OP intensely worked on lucid dreaming many many years ago when he had tons of free time, and he had some amazing, unforgettable experiences
- OP wishes he had more time to get into it again, and maybe will in the near future
- OP recommends the book "Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming" by Stephen LaBerge to anyone interested
- OP wants to see if some MISCers are interested in learning more

(This is a serious topic so ignorant/hateful posts will be ignored.)

inb4 lucid dreaming isn't real
inb4 lucid dreaming is equated to something totally different
inb4 OP is a *******
inb4 OP is a liar

Yeah it's pretty great fr. Usually most of my lucid dreams start with me trying to turn on a lightswitch at night and that stupid thing won't turn on, then after about 300 flips and other out of the ordinary **** going on i realize what's happening. Usually i only get halfway through all the dream shenanigans i wanna pull before i wake up.

It's legit, I've done it before I just don't remember what I did after I realized I was dreaming. In my dream I was staring at myself in the mirror and I had branches sticking out of my shoulder. I realized after a couple seconds that I had fallen asleep with my hand on my shoulder and that was what the "branches" in my dream were. I realized I was asleep and then I guess I did stuff, I just honestly cant remember for the life of me.

Been trying to do it for a while, practicing reality checks and what not. I got lucid once, I was dreaming I was flying and thought to myself, "am I dreaming?" Checked my hand and sure enough it was blurry and had too many fingers. I thought, aw yeah, and then I woke up because I got too excited.

Yes, looking at your hands is a popular reality check. It's best to actually count your fingers, because you'll notice something wrong like more or less fingers.

Waking up right away is a common problem, and there are techniques to avoid that. Rubbing your hands together quickly, or touching a dream object, spinning your body, etc.

The level of lucidity was probably just low, or the level of vividness. And there are also regular dreams which mask themselves as lucid dreams. You think you are totally aware, but everything is just fake and bland.

Real LDs with high lucidity and vividness are something totally different.

I can never control my lucid dreams. They're usually nightmares too. But still love having them.

Once I was able to control a dream where I was in a bus and made it fly into space. Was the best dream I ever had, and I'll always remember it.

My dreams are not lucid, they aremistyand never memorable.

Funny, my only lucid dream was the night I experimented with the "Spirit Molecule" but other than that, I have had 0 success.

Do you buy into the conspiracy that there are actors at play polluting food / air / water which can lessen phenomenon such as lucid dreaming, visions, enlightenment?

My dreams are so intense and weird. Can't imagine what adding lucid would do on top of that.

It would allow you to take control. Just like you're sitting on a computer typing right now, imagine being in a dream right now and fully aware it's a dream and that your body is in bed asleep. It is literally thrilling in so many ways lol.

Because you are experiencing them as a movie sort of, with no control.

Learned how to lucid dream when I was like 8 without realizing it (tried to remind myself I was in a dream so I could say curse words).

Now I lucid dream usually every night.

Normally I just float around in a meditative state, teleport or spawn super cars, planes, rockets, motorcycles, landscapes, etc for fun if I have to wake up soon.

After learning certain techniques, aliens with white hair started showing up as I went lucid and showed/taught me things. Won't go into detail but, each time it happens, I wake up in a very strange state.

Recently been trying to master field projections and leaving the body all together.

Interesting.

Some of my craziest experiences involve Wake Initiated Lucid Dreams (WILD), going from a sleep paralysis state directly into a dream. The first few times scared the crap out of me. Auditory/visual hallucinations were terrifying before the dream began to form in front of my eyes.

That only happens to me when I go to sleep on my back.

My routine for that is usually take 10 deep breaths from the stomach followed by 25-30 very shallow ones (don't let yourself move at all), then lower to 5 deep, 10-15 shallow and repeat the second step.
I know I'm close when it feels like I am sitting in my bed.
Willing myself to lay down puts me into a sleep state but if I imagine a rope hanging from the ceiling and pulling myself up, I will fly out of my body at what feels and sounds like hundreds of miles per hour. The first time was very creepy, felt like I was going to crash into something in the dark.

I feel sorry for people who don't remember their dreams, let alone go lucid.

I've learned that sleeping on my sides will almost always cause a limb to go numb and prevent me from using it in a dream.

What would you say was one of your favorite lucid dreams?

edit: one of my fav dreams I was floating in a field while watching the sunset with all the colors, then when it was dark, the moon came out. I made the moon go back down, and the sun come back. I watched the sunrise, then just kept making a sunrise/sunset/sunrise etc watching all the colors in the sky change. That dream was a milestone

Oh there are plenty to choose from. I'd have to look at some of my dream journals.

Those who can't remember dreams need to work on their dream recall and it'll eventually come.

BTW... if I were actively into LDing these days, your join date would have definitely made me wanna do a reality check.

I love lucid dreaming. I usually go around and start getting in fist fights with people. The mirror reflections are disturbing most of the time. Last time I looked into a mirror, I was severely sunburned.

Also, never call your cell phone # in your lucid dream. Beware.

I've tried to do it on purpose but can't seem to. Mostly have been trying with sound tracks from youtube that claim to induce it. They do seem to help me sleep deeper though.

Fuark, logged into confirm this is where I stopped. It's addictive as hell and really fun though. Killed my self multiple times by walking off buildings at first because I didn't know how to fly. Asked my consciousness and he told me lol. I could build and destroy entire galaxies by the end. Mess with time. Spawn. Teleort etc.. it was better than irl and I'm not proud to say I that. The moment I started messing with gravity the dudes with white hair showed up. I had some fun and gained some real insight by talking directly to my unconscious mind. Would really wish more people did it and stfu up about sleep paralysis being scary.
