It helps but not that much. He's still a 16 yr old boy. I just have to remind myself how lucky I am to not have a 16 yr old girl! The difference in insurance prices would be made up for in clothes and shoes. lol

WTF?! 6 accidents? I've had one in 48 years. Got smashed from behind (lol) by a non insured driver and totaled my 24 day old car that still had temp tags on it. Felt bad man.

If you're going to teach him to drive don't yell at him. I was driving with my dad one time and he made drive out of a parking lot (this was after my first lesson too) and apparently I didn't turn enough and he ends up grabbing the wheel and we almost hit a parked car. Yea lol

Oh no! lol Yeah, I've never driven with him on the roads yet, just in parking lots. He just finished drivers ed and got his permit this past Monday. Going driving today. Wish me luck! lol

My dad never taught me how to drive because he said he's not paying for that chit. Had to learn on my own in my early 20s. Insurance is about tree fiddy. You're doing your child a huge favor sir.

Sir???? How dare you! I am a Ma'am! lmao

Yeah, I had to wait until I could buy my own car and pay my own insurance before I could get my license. Feels bad boyo. Won't do that to my son. Plus, him driving will be a huge plus and convenience so it's kinda self serving. lol

This happened to me recently as well. Home and auto went from $185 to $450 per month. We added a third car though but still.

Yep, it's crazy how much it went up! I was going to get a newer used car this summer so he could have my car, but with this increase I don't know if I can afford a car payment. FML lol

I don't know about the laws in your state but there is nothing to pay for. Your parent teaches you x amount hours of driving, they sign off on a sheet, and then you go and take the driving test which is like $20.

I don't know the laws, but most kids here take Drivers Ed. I had to wait until I was 18 and then I just went to DMV and took the test.

Make him get a job to pay for it. Not to be one of those "back in my day" types, but the primary reason to get a car at 16 was to be able to drive to a job (partly to pay for the insurance). There were other reasons too, but that was probably the biggest ones.
