Just looking for feeeback on situation I been dealing with for few years now. Any input appreciated.

I had LASIK surgery years ago for 30th bday, was a perfect candidate went to best doctor in state who does surgery for pro sports teams etc.

First year everything was fine, saw great no problems. Right eye started getting fuzzy went in was diagnosed with LASIK induced Cornea ectasia which warps cornea over time until legally blind. This happens to 1-3% of patients because the cornea loses its structural integrity during procedure.

Got a procedure done to try and halt progression but that didn't work and gave me haze which made vision even worst. I see triple of everything which causes eye strain and headaches.

Still had left eye so proceeded with my career and passion in life of 3d artist, had just started my own company at time. Things were going great tried staying positive.

Few years later was told other good eye was developing same diseases, caused by losing structural integrity of cornea from lasik, went and had same procedure to halt progression that left me with massive nerve damage which feels like hot grease is in your eye 24/7. Pain is suicidal inducing, constant, and unrelenting.

Had to quit job, move in with parents, lost GF and just try to figure a way to reduce pain while both eyes slowly go blind.

At the point now at 36 where I expect to be legally blind by 40, eye pain condition has no cure or treatment, and I'm pretty much just fuked.

Always tried to stay positive and have seen over 30 docs around country, tried everything etc.

Yesterday for first time got sick of having the constant headaches, the constant pain, not being able to do my passion in life and work and realizing can't date or have much social life or offer chit to anyone, that life will never be same. Went out and hung a rope around tree and neck, but family came home so didn't proceed. For the first time since this all began I welcomed an end to it all, had zero fear.

Just wondering how anyone else here would deal with having there life ruined in such a way and Never be able to function or have extremely low quality of life living in constant eye pain and uncorrectable vision loss that prevents you from doing anything fun or going out, working dating etc.

Not looking for anyone's symphathy just honest feedback on how you would handle. Want to make sure I'm not missing something. Thanks for reading. Cheers.

If the pain is that bad, and you are blind anyway, what about removing your eyes (or eye that's worse) and going with a glass eye?

If nothing else make sure you become an organ donor so that you can help other people live longer lives when it's your time to go.

I'm sorry to hear about all this man... but, you need to go talk to somebody who can help you deal with your depression.

How long after your surgery did you get diagnosed with ectasia?

Doubt he can.

They go through all the possible side effects, no matter how remote, and make you sign a waiver.

This, and secondly you may honestly be better off getting the eye with severe nerve pain removed and the nerve deadened/destroyed. It's going blind anyway so may as well get rid of it now if it will save your from severe pain. Secondly get a good seeing eye dog. Thirdly start going to a therapy group where there are other people with similar chit present. Lastly there are many military brahs with severe burns, scars, missing limbs, missing pieces of face, complete blindness etc who have a life and wife. I fully encourage you to continue gyming even if you become completely blind. And you 100% need to join a therapy group where other people have similar debilitate conditions, you need friends and people to talk to who understand you.

You gotta find a new purpose in your life now OP. As ****ed up as your life is, think about all those people who have died but wished to be alive in your shoes.

I've been blind before. I could see color, but could not make out the giant E on the top of the eye chart. I had ulcers growing on my cornea. It was terrible.

Plus the medications - one you could TASTE when you dropped it in your eye. Another like Vaseline, etc., etc. Wake up in the morning eyes crusted shut.

It got so bad, the doctor was very distressed, mentioned an eye transplant to my mother and she made this guttural noise of pain. In that moment, I heard (internally), God tell me that everything was going to be ok.

The eye surgeons I was seeing (they literally wrote a medical textbook) - referred me that day to a corneal specialist.

Within the month, I had regained most of sight. I don't need glasses or contacts, and didn't have surgery.

God is indescribably wise and can give you joy. Seek his face.

We're all gonna make it brother, don't lose hope.

Waivers or no, you can sue for any reason. A good lawyer can easily create a case that the surgeon did not effectively portray the potential risks, and maybe even downplayed their likelihood.

This is very hard to hear, I realistically cant tell you anything that would help clear things up for you. I can just say, that ending your life is not the answer. You can still have a fulfilling life, you really don't know how bad your vision will ultimately get and on top of that, look at the era we are living in. There may not be a solution now but in 10,20 years, there very well could be one for you.

In your shoes, I suppose I would best prepare for life without vision now. Find things I can do and enjoy that don't require it, find groups of people I can talk to, and just slowly start to shift my life in a new direction and ultimately find fulfillment. Don't ever hold out hope though, a lot can change in the following years.

Damn man that's rough. Honestly don't know if I could cope. I guess the gradual loss is easier to adapt to rather than if you just went blind overnight but still...

If you think that's bad OP (and it is, I'm sorry to hear about what you are going through), this IG sloot got silicone implants in her eyes and completely f*cked up her vision.

OP have you consulted a number of eye specialists? Keep trying man, you never know what procedure just might bring your vision back.

Know the struggle. I was diagnosed with a condition called kerotoconus in grad school. Likely had the same corneal crosslinking surgery to halt progression that you were talking about. Stopped progression however vision is worse at night than before. If a car has those LED lights on it totally obscures my vision, like cant see the road at all. Looks like im looking through one of those furry wish weed things that you blow.

Ive come to terms with having ****ty vision. I cant speak to the pain, but having **** vision isnt the end of the world. Tons of people without true diagnosed eye conditions have acuity that is similar.

They also do transplants when your vision is legally blind. It isnt a fun surgery but it can restore vision.

It's true about suing, you can pretty much forget about it. Lasik is one of the most corrupt industries out there, I'm part of an activist group and plan to be mentioned in a NYT article soon. No attorneys would take my case and they do go over all the risks with you they just downplay how often they happen.

Nerve damage for example is listed as 'dry eye symptoms' which 30% of people get. The issue is that the cornea is the most nerve dense organ in the human body and completely regulates your tear function. The cornea also receives almost no blood supply so after any invasive surgery your nerves get severed and in many cases heal incorrectly leading to dry eyes, halos, eye pain or in my case severe neurapathy.

I take blood plasma drops 8 times a day to try and regenerate the nerves. This is not listed as a side effect and a class action lawsuit is pending against the FDA right now for ignoring the discovery which was made by a Harvard cornea specialist years ago.

As for removing the eye it's not going to stop the pain. After about 6 months post op if the nerves do not heal correctly, which again in 30% cases they don't, it morphs into neurapathy or phantom pain. Becomes less of an eye issue and more of a central nervous system issue. The only solution on record that has helped manage that is a pain pump implanted into your neck with a tube pumping opioids into the nerve relay station in your cranium. Only one doctor in country does it and due to health cre being so fuked they won't pay for it cause it's out of state.

Still waiting on disability. They declined me twice despite having questionare filled out by top cornea specialist in my state, it's just highly beurocratic.

Lastly I might as well warn anyone thinking of having this done or knowing someone having it done or even had it done in past. Of all the doctors and specialist I've seen who perform lasik not one has had the procedure done on themselves and most order there staff to wear contacts. This is an elective procedure and they make up to 15k an hour doing this. It really opened my mind when one doctor confided in me that he would never allow any of his friends or family to do the procedure because he sees people like me to often, only to walk out and greet some poor chump who is thrilled and about to have lasik done having no idea the science or data behind it.

Lasik complications can show up anywhere from 3-10 years post surgery. Anything from increased chance of retina detatchment and ectasia to early onset of cataracts or neurapathy.

With that said I appreciate and am considering all your suggestions. Thanks again.

OP, All I have to say is keep searching. You asked 30 specialists right? Ask 300 more, at this point it doesn't hurt to even try a new experimental procedure if you're going to off yourself anyways. I never found out what was wrong with my arms and hands for over a decade until some miscer awared me of TOS (thoracic outlet syndrome). No Dr's or specialists knew what was wrong and some miscer points it out. Changed my life. Not saying you will surely find a way out of this, I'm only saying to not stop searching, there is too much information for one human to know even a small fraction of in their own profession when were talking medical science in 2018. Don't lose hope yet, keep making phone calls, keep searching, legit call ellen or oprah perhaps get a bigger platform. GL brah.
