The realities of being CEO10K/DAY. You're not going to like this. No brag. (SERIOUS)
You probably think this is going to be a humble brag thread or troll thread, but it's not. I'm going to drop some insight for you guys because I know there are a lot of people here who either have 1.) aspirations of being ceo10k/day and dedicating a lot of your time to it 2.) assume that money buys happiness etc.
For sure someone is going to call me out for trying to brag or something, but my name is not associated with this account and nobody on here knows me in real life. I have literally nothing to gain from any of this.
Money = Happiness
Everyone's heard this one. THAT BEING SAID, it's not as cut and dry as it seems. While it may not buy happiness, it makes it a hell of a lot easier to attain. Good luck trying to be happy when you are digging through your couch trying to collect enough loose change to eat (been there before), or worrying about paying rent, being late 2 months on rent etc. Damn near impossible to be happy when you are stressed out about money. Can't take your girlfriend out etc etc.
I don't consider myself as happy as I should be by a long shot. I'm always stressing and angry about something or other, either business wise or personally. Yeah I might have nice chit, but none of that stuff matters really. Also because I've been so obsessed with money growing up, which is common for entrepreneurs who get into it for superficial reasons like nice cars and hot sloots, it never really seems enough and you always feel broke. To be 100% honest I feel uncomfortable walking into places like Nordstrom. For some reason it seems like everyone in there is was more successful to me and I feel like I'm faking it by even being in that store... even though it's not even really expensive.. It's weird.
Relationships
I've been blessed in this department. I've always had girlfriends who have absolutely loved me for me. I've never let on that I had money in the dating phase, because that's how you get gold diggers. However when you have the resourced available, you always have that nagging feeling in the back of your head like "should I be single and go travel?", "why am I in a relationship? I can be out there smashing sloots every weekend because I have money".. Which is extremely toxic, because those things will be fun for 1 month and then you'll be lonely and miserable. I've pretty much sabotaged all my relationships with girlfriends because I've been so obsessed with making more money and starting more businesses that I start to neglect the relationship. I'm probably going to break up with my current 2.5 year relationship because I know I'm not giving it 100% and it's not fair to her.
People will start to treat you differently. Including friends
You'll always have some haters making stupid comments and it's best to not even engage them. People will try and justify it to themselves because the idea that you made it on your own makes them upset. You can even spot it in some people in your own circle making back handed comments like for example... They are talking about an upcoming expense they have to pay and then follow it with "Yeah but that's like nothing to you probably..." or some other weird comment as if you're lucky, and money just fell into your lap.
People will try and use you as a piggy bank
Whenever someone runs into money troubles, who do you think they come to? You have no idea how awkward it is telling someone no, and not having the "I cant afford it" to fall back on. Sometimes people aren't your real friends and you have to say no because phuck them for making bad decisions and then coming to you to bail them out. Then you have your actual friends who ask to borrow money. In those situations I will usually always say yes, but it's tough because mixing money and friends is a recipe for disaster and you don't want to throw a friendship away for money... but if you have a friend who's terrible with money and you see him going out partying when you know they owe you money, it's hard to not resent them for it. This isn't a problem for me now though because I keep a tight circle and have been lucky to have a very solid group of friends. All highschool friends. It's hard to make genuine friends later on in life (poor or not).
You are tempted all the time by gold diggers
Not a problem if you're single, but if you have a relationship it becomes hard and starts putting thoughts in your head about what you're missing out on (strictly poonani and not emotionally), which in turn starts making you wonder if you even want to be in a relationship or if you want to phuck around... which in turn, you guessed it, starts phucking your relationship up.
strangers hate you
Lots of people are mad at their own lives and where they are and they view all people with money as the cause of their misfortune. It's not my fault you got married to a land whale and had 8 kids you hate and you contemplate teaching your toaster how to swim in your bathtub every night. For example.... I have a sports car and a normal SUV... Whenever I drive my SUV people are super courteous and always let me in when I signal etc etc... I never get pulled over by cops and I've been in maybe 1 road rage thing in the 3 years I've had it. In my sports car I almost get into road rage daily because people are absolute tools. I literally have cut people off every day to change lanes because people speed up when I start to signal for a lane change. It's like it's their way of "getting back at the man" or something like it's my fault they are unhappy with their life and assume I'm a rich kid who was handed everything or something.
Rich people are tools. Like 99.9% of them
Hanging out with rich people is about as fun as hanging out with a bunch of accountants discussing current tax laws. They are always trying to one up eachother, and it's the most cringe thing. One person will say something and the other will have to come over the top with something better.
I try to keep myself grounded and never ever talk about finances or anything ever unless its about business
Conclusion and advice to all brahs trying to make it
Money won't solve your problems. It might solve some of them, but there will be others to replace it. Don't overlook the beauty of getting a degree and having a cushy 80k/year job and clocking in and out at the end of the day and living your life. You don't get days off when you're an entrepreneur. You're often working 80 hours a week, and you can't call in sick. You're also most likely to lose all your money and then some trying to start a business. If you do decide to go down that path, do it for the right reasons. Not to buy nice chit or bang sloots because that will get old fast, and you'll find yourself in a position like me trying to figure out wtf you even want out of life. If I had to pick the best part though, it would have to be the ability to help people you care when they need help. Don't get taken advantage of though. Last but not least, I know how fortunate I am, and that there are people out there in terrible positions, but I'm not going to automatically be content just because there are people worse off. Life a trip man
money has never made me happy. Sure it's nice to not worry about bills and stuff but the happiest I ever am in life is when I'm outdoors. Shredding fresh powder with a good buddy. Hiking in the middle of the wilderness... Riding bikes (actual bikes) along the coast.. Sitting by water... being on the water...
All stuff you can do for almost free. I feel like I wasted a solid 10 years of my life chasing this unattainable goal of "when I have this much money I'll chill out and enjoy it" Luckily I only just turned 32 so I still have time to focus on the important stuff.
Doing something you are passionate about would help, but it's not a necessity. You don't have to love your job. Your job can be something that gives you the freedom to do what you really enjoy in your off time.
My advice would be to not look at everything as dollar amounts. If you would LOVE to work as a firefighter for example, You'd be way happier in life doing that for 80k/year than making 150k/year in a corporate job. I guarantee it.
For sure someone is going to call me out for trying to brag or something, but my name is not associated with this account and nobody on here knows me in real life. I have literally nothing to gain from any of this.

I always said if I ever, EVER make 50k a year, I would have "made" it. I am almost triple that and I still haven't made it. No matter how much you have, it never seems to be enough. That is until you realize, like OP, that money doesn't equal happiness.

I've done real estate, manufacturing protein powder, ecommerce, affiliate program, opened a couple of supplement stores (waste of time and money), played poker professionally, renovation company.. Now I only have the real estate, but I'm opening up a new business distributing raw materials to businesses.

My happiness has a price tag, about $30k
Skateboard park in my back yard, brb outside everyday learning new tricks while listening to post Malone and Rick Ross. My 14 year old self would be proud. Starting to drop a little weight now I’ve been skating a bunch more now.
Money doesn’t buy happiness but happiness isn’t always free.

My goal is to run my own business for a living. Not to get rich exactly, but for financial freedom and freedom to structure my life how I want. Set my own schedule, go where I want, wear what i want, get compensated directly based on output instead of based on politics/people's perception of you, non capped income potential, passive income.

Make sure you think long and hard about what kind of business you want to start. I'm not trying to talk you out of it, just know that it's going to consume your life in the beginning and have a ton of stress involved.

Guess who is still struggling to be happy? It's not me.Agreed that happiest I’ve ever is when I was in between jobs just out of college. I am a millionaire now, barely, and am not nearly as happy. Nice to not worry about bills but if anything I’m more paranoid and cautious in life thinking about losing everything I’ve worked so hard for.

All pretty good advice but from what I know, most people who claim to be rich aren't really anywhere close to being rich. Most real rich people try to hide it as much as possible.

Money doesn’t buy happiness but happiness isn’t always free.
