Hi boyos, im down, as there is a strong chance i might be around for much longer

First off, im quite a infrequent user of this forum, i used to browse here a lot a few years ago and even now i do it a fair amount still. So many of you may not know me or anything like that. But anyhow, im currently in the process of seeing a neurologist, after a recent GP appointment where what happened was i was told he couldnt rule out me having motor neurone disease, or ALS as many know it. What stephen hawking had apart from the fact its very unlikely to live 5 decades like he did as it normally kills in 3-5 years. Earlier so when you have Bublar onset, which is when it starts from the mouth region/throat which is likely where mine has started from going off my worrying symptoms.
Im 20 years old Misc. Havent done **** with my life and unsurprisingly im scared. My family think its anxiety but that doesnt cause my fingers to get stuck, my mouth to slur words and my tongue to be weaker and skinnier on one side and my whole body to have muscle spasms. I dunno why im making this thread, just wanted to leave a memory of me on here if the worse happens (and its increasingly looking likely) and just say thanks for the laughs on the way out.
Will update the thread when im aware of 100% whats happening but my GP looked quite concerned to say the very least so ive lost hope at this point.

well the first ones i started to notice that made me see a doctor was my left thumb felt janky, like something was pulling on it when I tried to move it. a day later this spread to my fingers as well in the hand with the same tugging sensation. I decided to see the doctor at this point as i had been ill on and off with cold and flu for the last 4 or so months. i also had for the last 3 weeks had a lump in my throat but i put that down to nerves. Well since the fingers turned janky i started feeling muscle spasms and twitches literally all over my body especially in my legs, left tricep and wrists. The doc guessed carpal tunnel syndrome as he didnt really see the twitches i described and just sent me off for a blood test. then the next day my right calf felt weaker like id been doing calf raises or something. then i thought maybe i should look at my tongue as i have been stuttering and stubbling words on the odd occasion, and thats when i saw the indention in my tongue and loads of the twitches across it. More to it but i dunno how many people want essays.

Cliffs
had weak fingers and thumb
doc thought it was okay
never checked tongue, looked and acted odd

Have you seen a specialist yet or just your family doctor?
Are you aware of any other diseases that might not be as sever as ALS that could cause these problems?

Are you aware that there are people in this world that have a severe medical condition which causes them to be that way? My mother for instance is one of those people. She is a truck driver that has bad knees and a bad back from driving the truck but you probably do not care about that case either. Oh well I am not one of those people I am 6'4" 245lbs and I exercise every day. I would love to see you say something like to my mother in front of me. Probably never happen though you are probably just an internet tough guy. I doubt very seriously you would say that to someones face. Just my thought. What do you think. Oh I am sorry you probably do not have a brain. I on the other hand will be happy to buy you a plane ticket to come here and see if you have the nerve to say that to someone I know.

im hopefully getting a neurologist relatively soon as waiting to see one on the NHS would literally take months so im going private. There are many, but if my concerns are correct, with both upper and lower motor neurone damage signs (basically lower is evidence of wasting ie. like my tongue which my family doc definitely could notice, upper is tightness in the muscle such as in my fingers) its considerably increases the risk it is this.

Hoping the best for you, bro.
The closer we approach the uncertainty of life's ending the more we wish to trade all of the things we have acquired in exchange for all of the things we have lost: wealth for youth, knowledge for fresh curiosity, resignation for hope. We'd trade our wisdom for new experiences, but it is wisdom that will teach us that at the end of the road the only new experience is death.

hoping it turns out to be something very treatable brah, keep your head up and try not to get yourself too worked up until you see the neurologist and get a diagnosis.

Sorry brah. My only advice for now is try not to conclusions yet, all you will do with that in the meantime is torment yourself. Do what you can to stay positive and get to a specialist stat. And know that the misk always has your back and will support you however we can - it's what we do in times like this.

I hope it's a false alarm but I find it hard to believe that you'd be made to wait months to see a specialist if your GP is as concerned as you say.

he said he couldnt rule it out and that referrals could take weeks even months. I checked the local specialist hospitals near me and they had all be clogged up by months so.

Keep your head up OP. One thing I will say is that anxiety can be much, much more powerful than any of us can ever imagine. It can literally control you and your thoughts and your body. Stay positive until you know for sure.

I am really sorry to hear that OP. Hold on though, there's still hope that it's not ALS or anything so severe so keep your head up as best you can. Hoping for the best and subbed for updates. Good luck!

Will pray for you brah, we all too easily fall into the mindset of taking things for granted. Best thing you can do right now is get out of your comfort zone and go live it up while you can.

I had kind of an ALS scare a few years back....no muscle wasting but, turns out I had, and still battle chronic lymes disease. Did the EEG, EMG, etc...

I am not saying you shouldn't be concerned and could have something going on...but I will say this...stress and anxiety does play a factor..for example the muscle twitching..dude I've had spans where every at any given time of the day I could find some muscle twitch on my body, you can see them just by looking at them...the more I focus on them the more prevalent they become.

I will say this, for you at 20 years of age to have ALS would be EXTREMELY rare. Try and keep your head up. Could be a ton of things.

When someone says "think of an animal with hooves".....it's probably not a zebra...it's probably a horse. Good luck bro, I'll pray for ya.
