gf moving into apartment

What's everyone's experience been here when first moving in with your SO?

My girlfriend has essentially already been living at my place for the last several months (6/7 days per week, sometimes 7) and she brought up officially moving in together last week and I thought why not.

Last night we tried out rearranging the living room together (I had an idea to fit another piece of furniture that didn't work out so we had to revert) and we ended up talking more about where all of her stuff was going to fit in and it started to make me realize that I'm going to miss having full ownership/control about the layout of the place.

Now I'm feeling conflicted and am wondering if I'm just being petty/resistant to change or if I should actually have more time before we move in together.

Never lived with any of my girlfriends before

You get bored of them 10x faster srs. If you actually found "the one" and can live with her, good for you.

I did it with 4 girls and sh*t hit the fan fast.

Completely depends on where you see yourself with this girl. If you have thoughts of her being "the one", then it's smart to do a move in. It will really test your chemistry together and abilities to live together and deal with the challenges that presents.

Can make or break your relationship, but at least you'll know.

So you just sped up the inevitable anyway, if you are actually meant for each other, living together shouldn't be much of an issue assuming you are willing to make compromises, but no different from having a roommate in that regard.

whenever a girl wanted to sleep over at mine and I folded and let them.. my weekend was ruined.

it changes the dynamics of the relationship in ways you wouldn't necessarily foresee. ex: all of a sudden you don't have anywhere that's truly yours where no one else is allowed. if you call the cops even they wont make her leave

you're thinking about the situation in a "practical" way and in the way she wants you to think about it... "i'm here all the time, why don't i just move in?"

don't do it.

why is she there all the time? you have power in your current situation. if she moves in she gains the power you had srs

I can't understand why anyone moves in with a girl. Coming home to silence and misc is the GOAT. Don't need to spend an hour two feigning interest in pointless conversation, etc.

I'm kind of a boring introvert tho so I think I might not be normal in my thinking here.

You will now be a guest staying in her apartment.

As long as you're cool with that you'll be ok.

Bad idea OP, I wouldn't move in with my SO unless we were about to get married.

Not a good idea.

How long have you been together?

Is she going to pay rent? You putting her on the rental agreement?

What happens when you break up? How awkward is that going to be when you two have to be in the same place until one of you finds a new unit.

This is the correct answer. This sort of thing will make or break your relationship, but if it's going to break it, you need to know that well in advance of considering marriage or anything like that. If this is a serious thing with long term potential, then go for it and see how it works out, it's just one of many tests. If you're definitely not ready to settle down and this is just a fling for fun, then don't bother as this will make you feel trapped you and ruin it.

Letting this happen can potentially result in your IRL negging yourself, srs.

Have you ever had a roommate? If so, you guys probably did some chit together, but for the most part, you guys did your own chit. Imagine having a roommate that you're obligated to spend time with once you get home. Every day.

Everybody moves in with each other thinking things will turn out great. No one plans for chit to hit the fan, but it does a lot of the time. You're going to fall out of the honey moon phase and become familiar with the errors of her personality. Perhaps a little too familiar, and that may be the end of things.

Living with someone long-term is much like having your girlfriend over for the day or a weekend. After a while, you've had enough and you want to be alone, browse the misc, listen to some tunes, cook at your own pace, lift, and sleep peacefully in an empty bed. A live-in girlfriend will complicate all that I've mentioned thus far.

Never understood what the problem is with letting the girlfriend take over the apartment. I would love to have a girlfriend deal with all the furniture and arrange the apartment. I don’t wanna deal with that chit anyways. I’m more concerned about actually being with someone 24/7 and not having personal space.
