crew of 3 guys did everything from the ground up, digging / foundation to assembling all the steel, stacking all the steel, installing all the cell tech and lines / cables, everything you can think of.

it's a knock down guy tower, heavy ass steel we had to use a gin pole and a winch to stack

damn, much impressive. I know a kid that climbed tall things like that, but he wasn't actually providing a service or anything. He was just climbing tall things, doing pullups on poles at the top, for youtube views

fav part of the job tbh, get paid to travel the world and see views that only a select few people get to see
there are a lot of times where we just sit up there for a moment and try and take it all in

because it's required by law, and because we move big steel and other dangerous objects above our heads constantly, and because sometimes people drop things that are above you.
also i wouldnt want to slip and hit my head off the steel, we climb a lot of confined areas where you commonly hit your head as well

there are literally a million reasons to wear a helmet

How long have you been doing this job? How many weeks do you stay out to remote locations like this?

Going on my second year, the guys I work with have 20+ years between the two of them and we are one of the only steel crews in the company, most guys only do lines and antennas, we do the more physical and dangerous work like destscking towers, building new towers, reinforcement and modifications.

This current job is taking us 6 weeks to complete, 3 weeks on 1 week off, 12+ hour days 7 days a week

The one we built in bc took 2 months, did 5 weeks straight and. Same back for 2 weeks off then another 3 weeks to finish it.

They vary depending on deadlines and what not. If it wasn’t the end of summer we probably would have just powered through the whole 6 weeks with no break but we all wanted some time off.

They’re all on private property and they’ll always be fenced off with barb wire, most will have an anti climb as well, which are usually impossible or extremely difficult to get past at the least

It’s a tricky one to get into, you’ll have to have thick skin because coming in as a green guy on a crew of experienced guys can get discouraging

It takes years to get good enough that you aren’t pissing people off at least some times. You have to know a lot of different knots and how to properly rig things up for hoisting etc, peoples lives depend on you being alert at all times and you’re gonna work a lot of hours, for weeks at a time. Time flies in this line of work though, 12 hour days feel like 6.

But apart from that there are a lot of companies hiring because there just aren’t enough people doing this line of work, if you think you can do it you can probably get a job and try it.

I came in some what experienced because I’ve done tower work when I was working for a wireless internet provider but I was still a green guy when I got into it and it took a little bit to find a good crew that I ended up sticking with and did a good job showing me the ropes.
