How can the world pressure China into (literally) cleaning its chit up?

Historically, we've been tacitly ok with them destroying the planet, eating anything with a shadow, putting a million people into concentration camps, harvesting prisoner organs, basing their economy on slave labor, making up their own exchange rates, unleashing lesser viruses upon humanity, whatever.

As long as we got iphones and nikes and didn't have to see it, we were cool. But this is probably a step too far.

Is there any way to force them into not eating wild animals and adopting western style sanitation guidelines?

Why even eat these??

No. The only thing that will hurt them is stopping countries from buying it's exports.
Stop buying it's exports and you're basically fingering your own ass.

The West would need to re-adopt Christianity before our words could have any weight in changing China's ways.

Well, you gotta ask yourself: what do you have that they want? And what price -as a country- are you willing to pay?

Trump has been trying to do this, leftists would rather tortured dogs, food cooked with actual oil and feces, children being run over and left to die than "Drumpf being racist"

The Chinese are no Vikings, that is clear.
But the Viking world adopting Christianity transformed their societies almost overnight.

Pangolins are threatened by poaching (for their meat and scales, which are used in Chinese traditional medicine for a variety of ailments including excessive nervousness and hysterical crying children, women possessed by devils and ogres, malarial fever, and deafness)

Good thing about the dictatorship is it's actually ez to divert resources and fix this.

Also people buy his propaganda, so he can just teach em better ethics.

Some good will come of this after all, coulda been way worse.

They've already banned eating exotic animals so they are learning but they need to do more no doubt. They have had too many health scares, remember the milk scandal some years ago, that had thousands of babies in hospitals and even to this day the populace doesn't trust buying baby milk formula produced in their country.

But lets be clear when laying blame. MER's started in the middle east, swine flu Mexico, UK had the whole BSE scandal back in the 80's and 90's when we denied any problem for years while selling beef to people all over the world that was contaminated. No country can afford to be complacent and no country is without fault. But China needs to know this is very damaging for their image, they are no longer isolated can no longer just hush things up in their own country because they are now a global player what effects them, effect us and the world is watching.

Stop being so damn reasonable and hate China already!

What they really need to heavily crack down on is the illegal wildlife trade. Demand from China fuels poaching and extinctions all over Asia and Africa and it's a disgrace. Most Chinese I know (upper class) are strongly in favour of wiping this out and want the wildlife market ban to become permanent

What is the difference between eating a bat or an armadillo and eating Piglet? Srs. It's not the animals, it's the hygiene.

Also, how many times have we had to toss kale or spinach or romaine lettuce because we don't know how to grow food. Fukking ridiculous.

But before we criticize too much, we should clean up our own act. We just exported a coronavirus infected patient to China who couldn't get tested here. Are we some sort of chithole country or what? How the fuk is this possible?

Also, your post assumes the "official" story is correct. LMAO. Most likely it was a leak. Just like SARS was. THAT is what needs to be addressed, and all the surrounding issues revolving around that fukkery.

They know they’re screwed, which is why they’ve already stated the bullsh!t “this came from America” narrative. As sad as it is, and as bad as I feel for the citizens there, we really have to just completely decouple and ruin their economy. It’ll hurt us as well, but it’ll be for the better. And the best time to do it is now while the entire world’s economy is screwed anyway. Their people will suffer and they’d probably experience a time in this century similar to what they saw last century with untold millions of deaths...but they kind of did it to themselves(govt., not the people). Every step of the way they’ve taken advantage of others in the world to push themselves up to their current status. Sure we exploit them for cheap labor, but that’s a deal agreed upon by both parties. On the other hand they outright steal from everyone and make it no secret that their primary goal is to emerge as the world’s superpower, no matter what it takes. Making them poor reduces that threat. Plus I actually think we should tell China that all of the debt that we owe them, they won’t be getting. That would be a tricky/dangerous move to pull off...but honestly if you owe someone 100 dollars then they go into your house and cause 1,000 dollars in damage, should you still pay them the 100? Not sure how all of that would work, just a thought since they’ve caused so much damage with their sh!tty practices.

We CAN'T decouple. Our entire consumer goods manufacturing base is there now.

e.g. a lot of our medicine is made there. 80% of antibiotics sold in the US come from China, meaning many people would likely die of treatable conditions.

If only there were some way to make that stuff here.....

Even if we don’t completely decouple, you can bet your ass that a lot of those critical items will be produced in America moving forward.

Correct me if I'm wrong. If the culture relies on Money is #1, Family is #2; business is done through guanxi (i.e. connections) much more corruptly by world standards, and the general attitude about every scandal is "We regret getting caught and punished, not doing it".

You expecting them to change on their own, is as effective as those "Just say no" campaigns were to drug addicts back in the day

To change China realistically, I would contribute to their healthcare system so that people rely on it more, and less on TCM. I would give the country preferential treatment the more they invest in awareness campaigns to aware their poor people about the pitfalls of Traditional Chinese Medicine that they never question, which encourages them to harvest the rarest wildlife and that weird fkn creature in post #1, etc.

Ok, well I guess if a lot of conspiracy sh!t that kinda checks out says it then it must be true.

There’s no reason to believe that over the natural explanation(which we’ve seen countless examples of over human history) unless you just prefer conspiracy theories. Not saying it isn’t true, but I would have to see a lot of evidence to convince me of it. Plus, even if it is true(which, again, I don’t think is the case), they still showed how irresponsible they are because it was released there. Actually, your example makes them LESS responsible. It’s one thing to have sh!tty wet markets with cages full of reptiles stacked on cages full of birds stacked on cages full of mammals. That’s bad enough. But to have a hardcore bio weapons facility that you can’t prevent leaks from is even worse.

^WasCanada, my bad. I went down a rabbit hole a few months ago and it appears some links were scrubbed, but the Canada NML was in the news for sending Ebola and another virus to China. Several Chinese involved in the Canada side. Related link:
https://www.google.com/amp/s/nationa...lth-agency/amp

And that's the point. Wet markets being blamed and just making a cultural shift is way more preferable to actually having to take responsibility for "accidentally" releasing a virus. Again. It's not out of this world. It is known that they accidentally released SARS before.
