Why are old people so fuking stupid?

Whenever I go to the store to get essentials, the store is mostly filled up with old people. They aren't concerned with this chit at all, they don't hurry, they don't keep away from others. This virus is deadliest to old fuks, so why don't they stay at home as much as possible?

Ive noticed this too. Slowly strolling through the aisles, standing next to people, chatting and wasting time. Whats even more frustrating is the market only allows 10 people at a time, so its basic consideration to hurry up, get what you need and get out.

I think at a certain age you just cant change your habits too easily.

I believe that, back in the 1950s and before, periods of social distancing and cancellation of events were standard practice because medicine of the day sucked and lots of things could kill you. Polio, flu, other diseases that have been eradicated in the US used to have breakouts in communities. So this probably isn't all that 'out of the ordinary' in their minds.

Also, I think most people tend not to think of themselves as high risk even if they are. Bad things happen to other people.

I really feel like I need to help you with this.

The problem isn't just that old people are dying, a significant number of younger people need to be hospitalized with the virus. If there were no restrictions, the virus would spread exponentially and health services would be overrun within weeks.

This means people with regular illnesses would suffer. And there wouldn't be enough resources to deal with accidents and emergencies.

Then you look at the death rates of older people and at risk groups.

Taking measures to minimize the impact of the virus doesn't seem unreasonable, imo.

What I don't get is why is it always a couple. Just go alone. If you must go out why do you need to also bring your wife with you? Just put the groceries in the cart and then leave. I realize people like to do things with their spouse and that's fine normally, but during this lockdown period of trying to minimize exposure there is no reason everyone needs to roll to the store in pairs. I got to publix the other day right as it opened and the line outside was about 75% older folks together in wife/husband pairs. Boggles my mind. Not all old people are this way though and in the case of my Mother we got her enough food for several weeks and she's not been out of the house. Don't lump everyone together because of their age.

Probably some truth to this. You hear the "I've lived a good life" line all the time in regards to old people in end of life situations. Basically they're just like eh I've had a good run I'm not going to cower in a hole for the rest of my days. I(they) would rather carry on as normal.

I absolutely agree that they should not give a fuk about what the paniccels are telling them, and should live their own lives, but other people are still going to work and doing chit and don't want to be in a dystopian-themed store or wait in line like cattle any longer than necessary. Taking forever to do basic tasks when others are waiting for you to complete them is inconsiderate at best. Standard procedure when lining up at the grocery store is already to find the line with the youngest average age in it, I can only imagine it would be even worse now.

I am old and can confirm.

There is a sort of odd greediness that seems to set in with older people. Like no way can you get in line in front of me because its my place in line and if you get it you are someone one better than me. That sort of entitlement type thinking.

No idea why it is that way except maybe people just not really going out and about and being trapped with a spouse 24/7. That would make you sort of selfish.

Either way, It drives my nuts too.
