Harsh truths about lifting that no one will admit

-Bulking and Cutting is a waste of time, if you’re not a beginner
-Compound lifts > everything else
-Genetics > Diet/training
-Diet > Training
-Most natural lifters only need 2,500-3,000 cals/day
-Youtube fitness is full of idiots and liars
-15% bf is the healthiest for men
-Lifting can’t compensate for an ugly face or short height
-poor cardio leads to an early death
-most supplements are useless

Agree with... most of this. But bulking/cutting really is a good path for a lot of people.

Lifting heavy and compounds definitely matter. Too many dudes doing high reps and never pushing their limits.

Also honestly... anyone you admire has done supplements. Better accept that and make your choice early, than chase something that's not actually possible.

all I do are the compound lifts now 3-4x a week. I train high reps but my bench is still nearing 405

I don’t follow any of these bs programs on the internet. no belt/lifting gear. it’s all bull$hit

lifting is not as complex as most people think. that’s the main message

What is your height and weight?

If it's sane, you're definitely a product of genetics. They estimated most men would never bench 300lbs regardless of training program natty. I believe it. If I'd been willing to make myself sick with help, I'd be in the 400s. Had a kid and got stuck at 365 x 2 looking for general health balance. Know how hard even 315 was for me

low body fat can do wonders. if you have a decent jawline you can go from that to having a flat out good jawline, and so forth. Which is more significant than muscle really, chicks like muscle but they look at the face first.

it's crazy seeing all the pics of dumpy/beta looking dudes who went from that to alpha looking just from getting rid of facial fat.

won't cure recessed incel face but can definitely spin you up a few points.

6’1 230

my bench didn’t start out good. was recently in the past two years I learned how to bench correctly

went from CG 225-315 for reps in less than a year. but took me longer to go from 135-225

only bench and squat are my good lifts

It depends. At some point, some/many/most(?) get 'skull face', they look gaunt. I'd rather stay @12% , I don't measure. I just look at the mirror.

This needs to be emphasized more. I don't think a lot people who lift realize that having good cardio is usually better for their quality of life than adding 30 lbs to their bench.

short height by 20% or so.

-most supplements are useless
Almost every supplement causes net harm.
I'll add: Anything really meaningful in lifting cannot occur naturally. At best a healthy habit on the side.

Agree with most points

Your face matters a lot more if you're after girls, but if you're after girls, you are yet better off practicing talking to girls.

I realise this is the Misc but here goes nothing...
- bulking and cutting is the only way to progress but the key is not to overdo it - very slight surpluses when bulking if you are advanced because you aren't expecting to grow muscle fast
- compound lifts are like the hammer and the chisel in the toolbox - very useful but you might also need other tools, some things are just not well trained by anything else
- in particular, staying healthy especially when lifting at an older age needs careful choice of balancing isolations to prevent joint issues
- People constantly use genetics as an excuse when it's actually hard work and persistence that eclipses everything else. Perhaps genetics becomes the most important factor if you want to be a world champion... but for average guys, they can get results if they try.
- you can't say diet or training are more or less important than each other. It's like saying the left or right leg is more important when walking
- cardio is not required if you work your ass off with weights, especially high rep lower body lifts. My blood markers are in the top 1% for people my age and I never do any formal cardio.

Agree on all the rest.
