As much as I agree. It's not the people's fault. Horrific governance over the last century has resulted in abject poverty and a horrible standard of living. You eat what you can when you're starving. Aside from that, Communism at that level is a scourge and should be eradicated. I do wish the US would drop some democracy on the CCP.

Complete nonsense. The governance over the last century did not cause 'abject poverty and a horrible standard of living' unless you look at small snapshots without the bigger picture

It is quite the opposite - their standards of living have absolutely skyrocketed over the past 50 years, and the govt has brought more people out of extreme poverty faster than any other time in history.

China's poverty rate fell from 88 percent in 1981 to 0.7 percent in 2015. In relative terms their sol has risen a lot more than for americans over the same time period.

Do you think they were all living it up pre WW2 and muh commies ruined it or something? Do you think the govt would remain in power if the my weren't broadly supported by the population?

China's life expectancy was around 43 years old in the 1960's and now its around 78 years old...Thats almost the same as the US but 5x the population

China must be the most hated nation on earth, even pre Covid.

Would never go to that chithole (been to HK and that was enough) but can't stand Chinese tourists. Brb having to do everything in huge, annoying groups, whirlwind sightsee just to tick things off their list, without appreciating anything, eat with their mouths wide open, always speak loudly in the most annoying 'language' imaginable and never have any sense of insight or irony.

This is a photo of the place where they filmed The Beach, the film of a book that is in part about how once word about some stunningly beautiful place gets out, mankind will almost immediately ruin it.
