Remember when music had..

Personal positive/negative meaning behind every lyric?

Pepperidge farm does.

Here's a forgotten song for all the depressed FA brahs:

Help me if you can
It's just that this, this is not the way I'm wired
So could you please,

Help me understand why
You've given in to all these
Reckless dark desires

You're lying to yourself again
Suicidal imbecile
Think about it, you're pounding on the fault line
What'll it take to get it through to you precious
I'm over this. Why do you wanna throw it away like this?
Such a mess.

Why would I want to watch you?
Disconnect and self destruct one bullet at a time?
What's your rush now, everyone will have his day to die

Medicated, drama queen, picture perfect, numb belligerence
Narcissistic, drama queen, craving fame and all its decadence

Lying through your teeth again
Suicidal imbecile
Think about it, you're pounding on the fault line
What'll it take to get it through to you precious
Go with this, why do you wanna throw it away like this
Such a mess.

Why would I wanna watch you..
Disconnect and self destruct one bullet at a time?
What's your rush now, everyone will have his day to die

They were right about you
They were right about you

Lying to my face again
Suicidal imbecile
Think about, you're pounding on the fault line
What'll it take to get it through to you precious
I'm over this. Why do you wanna throw it away like this
Such a mess, over this, over this!

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet at a time
What's your hurry, everyone will have his day to die
If you choose to pull the trigger, should your drama prove sincere,
Do it somewhere far away from here.

"Biggest fear in life is holding babies. Their so fragile, if you drop them you can ruin their entire life.
When a baby is looking at me and no one else is, I like to make sad faces to get the baby to cry and no one knows why it's crying. If they are young enough they will mimic other peoples emotions so if you act sad they will get sad." -captiontom

I mean I wasn't really expecting a 6% statistic music thread but it technically applies if pre 2010

To be clear, rap is still the noise of cultural degeneracy

Van Der Graaf Generator - "When She Comes" (1976)

Spoiler!
Slow motion in the quiet of your room:
so potent is the smell of her perfume
that you think she's eternal
that you think she's everything
-but no-one knows what she is....
Repentance for all you should have said-
her entrance seems to raise you from the dead
and you think she's really with you
and you think she'll always stay.
always ready to forgive you,
always ready to grant you her mercy
-but in her own way.
When she comes she'll be a stranger;
struck dumb you'll try to protest
as the drum beats out the danger,
too late-you should have noticed
that the lady with her skin so white
like something out of Blake or Burne-Jones
always blocked out the light
and shadowed all you owned.

Still you think she's forever,
yesterday and tomorrow
-but no-one knows where she is.
Still you swear that you can win her
and your prayer is that she'll want you;
aware, once a saint, now you're a sinner
and your sins are going to haunt you
when the lady with her skin so white
like something out of Edgar Allen Poe
holds your hand so tight
and you hope that she'll never let go.

Easy targets, easy cross-words, easy life:
these key margins leave you balanced on the knife,
bleeding darkly. In the end it all comes down
to sleazy bargains.
That hidden key-you tried so hard to find it:
all you can concieve is the effort to be worthy.
Even now you need to be reminded
that La Belle Dame is without mercy.
The lady with her skin so white
-you never did quite catch her name-
now she holds you in the night
and she'll never let go again
she'll never let go again

Look I don't buy into tinfoil hat theories, SJW clown world is a minority with a very loud voice thanks to mainstream news channels. Itisthe root cause of societal downfall in North America.

People currently under the age of 30 and over the age of 45 are not going to understand that, you're echoing into an empty chamber.

My entire school would skip for 3-4 days and drive through multiple states for warped tour bands in the early 2000's, sleeping in our vehicles.

It made woodstock look like a movie theater by comparison, musical influence peaked during our lifetime. The radio had something for everyone on just 2-3 stations, even hip hop was great.
I would be embarrassed to call the talentless trash they put out today, music. It's just pre-recorded noise.

Everything from music to movies to social lives has been ruined for the masses, you know it, I know it, anyone with an IQ reaching three digits knows it.

The misc is going to die meme'ing you, EOD, because they're blissfully unaware of what goes on around them. And thus my username was born.

Personally I'm going to meme you for buying a 9400f instead of Ryzen. Normie mistake.

I rarely ever look at the lyrics unless there's a vocal section I really like and want to sing along. I mainly just focus on the instruments. Anyway, although I've heard of them, I've never listened to A Perfect Circle. Judging by that song they sound kinda like Tool.

This never fails to hit me directly in the feels.

Sometimes when I am a bit lost with myself, I listen to this song and it helps me redirect my energy.

Spoiler!
It's your time
It's your day
It's never too late
To change lanes
How's your life?
How's your place?
Was it where you wanted
Your head to lay?

But wait, you can breathe
You can see what I can see
Don't waste your time
You can't make back

If you could rewind your time
Would you change your life?
Rewind your time
Would you change your life?

Do you like you?
Do you love your wife?
Or did you pick what
You're told was right?

Dream and be
What you feel
Don't you compromise
What you wanna be

'Cause change is okay
What's the point in staying the same
Regrets, forget what's dead and gone

If you could rewind your time
Would you change your life?
Rewind your time
Would you change your life?

If Jesus rode in on a camel today
With your cross on his shoulder
Time to take you away
Have you done all you wanted?
Are you happy and warm?
Do you miss someone special
You don't see anymore?
Have you blood on your hands?
Do you dream of white sands?
Can you sleep well at night?
Have you done all you can?
The place I was born in
Stays crooked and straight
I see innocent blue eyes
Go blind everyday

Rewind your time
Would you change your life
Today?

this one sounds so much better than anything else posted ITT, then I checked the date - 1976 - ah yes of course that explains, music didn't get worse over night it got progressively worse over the decades

same with movies or any of those types of entertainment, it seems like everything just got progressively more lazy and less creative (in general of course, there's always gems to be found in any day and age)

A fair assessment. Tool also had some very deep lyrics for interpretation, the song in the OP was something that came on my lift list and reminded me of the misc rotters.

Vocal pitch, range, and time changes are what draw me into a song, followed by instrumentals.

This is why I can never take rap seriously, by definition it is not music.

"Music is vocal or instrumentals (or both) combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmonic melody and expression of emotion."

Harvard did a very extensive study and determined that music has gotten objectively worse every single decade since the mid 20th century in terms of what actually makes "music".

I don't disagree, despite preferring more contemporary sounds, namely rock, even I am able to recognize that someone like The Beatles are musically superior in almost every way.

Here's a soul song by Mr Otis Redding circa 1962 and is one of my personal favorites:

Well the point was is that itusedto be mainstream whereas now you have to go backdoor searching for decent music as of.. the last 10 years. See post #17 for an explanation as to why that is.

To everyone else that has posted ITT I am listening to your shares throughout the day and you're appreciated.
