"Trader Joe's acknowledged over the weekend that its approach to product naming, which resulted in ethnic foods being labeled with modifications of "Joe," such as "Trader Ming's" for the brand's Chinese food, "Arabian Joe" for its Middle Eastern foods and "Trader Jose" for it's Mexican foods, "may have been rooted in and lighthearted attempt at inclusiveness" but actually "may now have the opposite effect."

The name needs to change. "Trader" has negative connotations and "Joe" is male.

It’s not offensive to me a all, but that very very dated chop stick font they use does come from a time of serious racism towards Asians and Chinese.

Actual asian products sure as sht dong use anything like that - it’s just marketing and branding. If it was my brand I’d change it.

Lol, yes I have - many many times. Here and in Asia. They do not use that font, with the exception of super old school kitschy Chinese restaurants serving chop suey or whatever they invented to please western pallets.

I'm Chinese and the Trader Ming's thing is funny to me. I don't understand why people are so sensitive. I even have their pork Shu Mai and Soup Dumplings in my freezer right now.
