Any College Professors on the MISC?
So we all know college is a rage inducing scam at the very best, from the student’s perspective. (And by extension, society’s perspective).
However, I could understand the appeal of being employed by a college. Available resources to conduct your own work, be exposed to a number of other experts in whatever field everyday. Essentially never stop learning. (Acknowledging learning and achieving education are two separate things).
I just have to wonder what a terrible conflict that must stimulate in people. Sure there is personal gain, and you can contribute to significant advances in various communities. However, just the understanding of what a money worshipping, exploitative institution college has become in America must be a huge turn off.
Any input from from some insiders?

I'd be interested to hear some input. The little I know from the program I was a part of is that chit gets political in uni among deans, tenured professors, etc. So much so, it was rumored that a couple of old tenured professors were going to retire.
Your schtick sucks and it screams insecurity.

I do some online stuff here and there. I know a guy making a killing but he's online teaching for like 10 different schools.
Online is a racket. Major universities are creeping more and more into a blended schedule. Plenty of opportunities to teach if you have the credentials.
That's all the inside I got. I don't talk to tweed jacket wearing dweebs

I work with a lot of people in academia and research, and I think most of them don't really care about students' loans.
They're primarily focused on their research and getting that teaching position.
Most people in academia live a completely different life than the average person.
Most come from middle/upper middle class families or from foreign countries, so they rarely have student loans themselves.
One mentor I had said that her family was paying for her undergrad student loans, and she will pay her siblings loans too when she gets a position at a university.
They can't really relate with people studying to go work in the industry.

A few guys I went to school with are college profs. For those lucky enough to get tenure, it took several years and different gigs before it finally happened.

Most people in academia are tools with worthless opinions on any subject except their area of expertise. And some of those opinions are suspect. Source: I am a former college professor.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not trying to discount personal financial responsibility and planning, but what chance do people have? They are led to believe they need the degree, and there is no way to do it other than significant debt.

I’m a lecturer at a Canadian state college and absolutely love it. The experience of standing in front of a 50+ crowd for three hours and sharing ideas concepts and interacting-debating is similar to a drug like experience to me. It’s addictive and rewarding. You also get paid decent for the amount of actual work.
I’ll add that a lot of my colleagues are smart as **** but a lot of them are soft betas so that’s one thing that, I think, has helped set me apart and probably land the gig on the first place.
