Will using heavy grip hand grippers help with strong deadlifts?

My deadlift is pretty weak compared to my squats and bench press. I notice that my grip always fails and my forearms feel weak from deadlifting

Will buying and using these heavy hand grippers on a regular basis help? Stronger forearms + better grip. What do you guys think?

Any other tips? Anyone else had a bad deadlift and worked their way up to over 5 plates?

Never tried any like that. Just started doing all my pulls that I could with double overhand or mixed grip. Once I got over 500 someone introduced me to the nice and painful hook grip. I know people who have used grippers like that, although I think they were called King of Crush or something similar.

If they aren't stupidly expensive, get some and try them out. They won't make your grip any weaker, but they might actually help.
You would be surprised just how much time I have to waste.

I second using hook grip. It can be quite painful though.

As for training the grip just pickup the heaviest dumbells or babbell you can and hold it as long as you can.

No need for wrist curls.

Any tips on how to break the plateaus for deadlifts? ALL my lifts are going up, shoulder press dumbbells, military press, dumbbell press, bench press, squats, leg press, bicep curls, machines etc.

My deadlifts been stuck at 350 for so long now. I have friends and see other people way smaller and skinnier than me doing over 4 plates. I don't know if its my grip or weak forearms but I definitely feel my back can handle much more

Have you considered it might not actually be your grip?

The grip "giving out" is sometimes the body's way of defending you against injury if you are pulling heavy. To test it out, try doing a rack pull or some other heavy pull where you have a limited range of motion. If you can rack pull something like 405+ and hold the barbell for a decent time, then it is not your grip, but possibly a different muscle that is the weak spot. If you are pulling too heavy for your lower, as an example, your brain is going to send those signals to your hands to let go before you go to Snap City. Same thing with traps, hammies, glutes, or pretty much any muscle involved with the deadlift(which is most of them.

Sorry for the wall of text.

TL;DR
Grip may not be your weakness
Grip is also the way your body gets you to bail out of the lift
Check grip strength with a heavier short range rack pull or heavy DB
You would be surprised just how much time I have to waste.

Do lots of shrugs. Get used to holding heavy weights. Also do pull ups and holds.

I recommend not focusing on deadlifts and sticking to squats. I have pretty juicy hamstrings that match my quads in strength from only squatting. Not a fan of the deadlift.

If grip is your issue, stay away from gloves. They increase the diameter of the bar, but they will not help improve grip strength.

There is actually a piece of equipment, I forget the name, that increases the diameter of the bar so that any pull you do works your forearms and grip strength even harder.

Dont use gloves. Just focus on grip training by holding heavy weights and itll come. I used to have major issues when i started out but i got over it being patient.

As for hook grip there are many videos out there. When setting your thumb, dont think of it as trying to bring your thumb around the barbell but instead you are trying to bring it across it (parallel). One way to get it deeper is to rotate you hands outwards slightly while setting the grip and then once you bring them in your hands will feel locked.

Just keep an eye on your thumb nail. You can tape it but i found it ruined my grip.

it can help if grip and forearm is actually a weakness. it's typically not the limiting factor but not exactly uncommon either. first thing would be to ensure you are using either a hook/mixed grip and are using chalk.

there's different type of grip strength, i.e: pinching grip, crushing grip and support grip.

Pinching grip probably won't help you, crushing grip may help you grip the bar harder which may translate a little bit but are not typical forearm builders. You probably want more support grip strength and something more specific that mimics a deadlift.

Try isometric holds, take heavy weight and hold it at the top for 15-30 seconds. You're basically holding the top of a deadlift for 15-30 seconds which will help build grip, forearms while being applicable to a deadlift. Also try out fat grips. With gyms closed i've been using these a lot with my dumbbells for the past 3-4 months and I feel my grip has gotten stronger and my forearms got bigger (about 0.5 inches). You don't need to do specific grip work but you can add fat grips to your barbell rows, curls, pullups, anything that requires a handle. I like these a lot. Might be worth trying these out in a few exercises for a few months and see how it is.

crushing grip strength is alpha, badass and all that but IMO is probably not the solution to your deadlift grip problems.

Most people i know who used them absolutely loved them.

If you want a poverty solution try wrapping a small towel around the bar where your hands are. Might not work great but itll work your grip.

Yeah they are fun and a nice little variation to add to your workout if they get monotonous.

I will also add that I never really found direct forearm work to be beneficial from my own experience. Chit like wrist curls, wrist extensions, etc. I think you get more bang for your buck just lifting heavy chit for time under tension. Farmer walks could be an excellent addition as they also train many of the same muscles that are used in the deadlift on top of your forearm and grip strength. You can use dumbbells but IMO trap-bars work perfect for this as you can load a lot of weight

I bought these last year, totally work. I was using them even when doing presses/bench. 185# deadlift feels like three plates, forearm growth was substantial after only a month.

Most people say heavy grippers don't help with failing to hold onto the bar when deadlifting. I found that they did help me and quickly, within a couple of weeks. YMMV.
