Why did god make predators?

Why did he decide to make animals that need to kill and torture other animals every day just to survive?

circle of life. otherwise we wouldnt have ability to procreate and creatures would over run the world

if insects didnt have other insects to eat them theyd be crawling all over us

Balance. A land of pure herbivores would eventually starve themselves out. Also, many herbivores don’t gain their nutrients from plants, they gain them from digesting the bacterial colonies that they support by ingesting plant matter.

He didn't...lifeforms evolved to be predators. A god most likely doesn't exist -- at least not in the way major religions think of it. I suppose one could consider the universe itself as god..

I remember reading about some predators being killed or their numbers went down and all of the herbivores increased a lot and just ravaged the grass and rekt the ecosystem. When the predators came back, the ecosystem became balanced again.

I've got a great book on hunting that has a section devoted for this. Large herbivores like deer will absolutely ravage an area of all plant life. Farms, fields, forests up to about 7ft, etc. Without predators (hunters in this books case) an out of control deer population causes billions in property damage to cars, farms thus making food scarce for humans, etc. Due to the lack of vegetation, small herbivores starve off as well.

They took a 1 acre of land and fenced it so deer couldn't get in. Outside that fence was stripped bare with very little biodiversity. Inside that acre was lush and had population of small mammals and ground nesting birds that was completely absent outside the fence.
