Gun sales spike among African-Americans

When Americans panic, they buy guns — lots of them. During the first six months of 2020, amid a global coronavirus pandemic, gun retailers have reported a record 10.3 million firearm transactions, according to a new survey by the National Shooting Sports Foundation.Overall, gun sales in the U.S. have increased by 95 percent while ammunition sales have increased 139 percent compared to the same period last year.

And while various demographic groups are buying guns in 2020,African-Americans account for the highest increase in gun purchases of any group.

“The highest overall firearm sales increase comes from Black men and women, who show a 58.2% increase in purchases during the first six months of 2020 versus the same period last year,”Jim Curcuruto, NSSF director of research and market development, wrote in his report. “Bottom line is that there has never been a sustained surge in firearm sales quite like what we are in the midst of.”
Actually know this guy IRL for a few years and got my gun license from him.



Some interesting snippets from the article.
History shows that gun control laws have always been unfavorable to Black Americans. Even before America was a country, Black people were banned from owning guns. “The first gun control law in the territory that is now the United States was passed in Virginia in 1640,” journalist Daniel Rivero noted in a 2016 Splinter article. “It explicitly banned black people from owning guns, even if they were not slaves.”
The move for African-Americans to own guns appears to be a break from the progressive movement in American politics, which people of color generally align with.
I wonder if Biden will soften his stance on gun control after realizing much of his potential voting block ARE in fact pro-2A
Toure [Black Guns Matter] advocates for Black gun ownership as a tool for self-defense and pushes gun safety. But he acknowledges the fact that fear makes people buy things. Toure welcomes this.

“I love that so many Black people are buying guns,” he said. “If you’re racist ... and you think that one group is inferior to another, then you should be afraid.”

I firmly believe that an armed society is a safe society.

My issue is people buying guns WITHOUT training. My mom did that chit. It took me over a year of me shooting to purchase my first gun.

I just don't want folks on the street with guns, without training, and know the laws. Luckily it seems some folks are actually going to instructors like my man above.

I'd like to think that this will stop Ds from pushing gun control but it won't. The more Americans who own guns the less likely gun restrictions will be passed.

Well yeah, blacks are ****ed rn.

It is their areas that will have no police.

It is their areas with the huge spikes in crime.

It is their businesses torched.

The amount of vitirol, hate and violence spewed from BLM toward literally everyone else and the complete silence of blacks about it doesn't bode well for the optics of it all.

I don't trust Republicans to stand up for our rights. The best we can hope for is for them to not actively campaign to take them away. The only thing you can count on republicans for is tax breaks. I just don't see Biden winning unless they make all ballots mail-in in swing states. If this happens Trump is doomed since there will be some serious fukery

Have gun sales actually increased or are you just buying them from stores now?

Remember that book freakonomics? Things like this aren't always the direct relation that one would assume. Maybe white people have just gotten better quality safes and your market is seeking a new supplier.

Yep. Gun control has racist roots. I advocate for anyone who can get a firearm legally do so. Too many women go missing for my comfort to not advocate for it. Now BLM is talking about defund the police. There will be more domestic violence crime and violence if that happens.

I think BLM is a Marxist front. Well not think I KNOW by looking at their mission statement.

Some Blacks are in the fray that legitimately think that those folks protesting in Austin, Portland (Oregon didn't let Blacks in their state until the 1950s) and Seattle actually are 'fighting for them' and some Blacks see through it. Add COVID hysteria and it's all wild.

If you only want it cause it looks like the anime gun and can't find a Jericho get a Tristar T120. They are made by Canik who makes excellent pistols. I have a TPSA9 and it feels and shoots like a dream. They have no business being as cheap as they are and the price is gonna skyrocket soon

I live in a predominately Vietnamese area with a sprinkle of black boyos. Also live next to a hospital, so police are around occasionally. Feelsgoodman

i don't know much about pistols, do you have to special order ones with the sights on the side since normal ones don't work when you shoot with the gun sideways?
