is there any point training abs directly?

I have had abs for a decade now with no direct ab work. Is it not the case that visible abs is purely dependent upon having a low bf% and nothing else? If this is the case then what is the point of doing ab work?

Abs are like any other muscle - the size and thickness correlate to how much they are trained. Plus having a stringer core correlates to stronger lifts and more back support.

If your core strength limits you in other athletic pursuits or lifts, then you should target abs.

I can see mine, but they are kind of puny looking to me, and core strength holds me back on pull ups currently, so I work on them. I'm trying to master dragon flags.

Overarching point is that visible abdominals will come from low body fat and nothing else.

Heavy compounds that work your core like squats and deadlifts will strengthen and work your abs more than doing crunches.

I'm convinced doing situps and crunches are absolutely worthless. It's like a bad habit the fitness community has yet to get rid of. You'll never 'get abs' by doing situps.

This

You might have abs, but they’d look better if you trained them

People need to quit thinking of abs as being so different from any other muscle group.

Let's say you have a 25 year old 300lb obese couch potato man start lifting. Even if he gains noticeable muscle in his biceps, they're still going to be fatceps at best until he actually loses the excess fat covering them as well. It's ni different for abs other than the fact that fat tends to store in the gut area a lot more easily.
