Golds Gym Membership Forgot to Cancel?? Am I fuarked?

I had a gym membership I paid through a discounted rate through my old work. I have changed cards and jobs since Nov 2018 and haven't had any calls or emails on my membership. I don't remember if I formally cancelled before I switched to LA.

Should I call them and see if I owe a balance? Was thinking about switching back once my time at LA is up. Nervous they are gonna tell me I owe every month.

A lot of people complain about gym memberships and how they will keep charging your card after you cancel, or add fees and ding your credit report if you don't pay, then they blame you for not cancelling correctly.

They do that auto renew thing to where they will keep charging you, even after your two year contract is up. They are also passive-aggresive about cancelling, saying you have to go there in person to sign cancellation papers, that they will try to talk you out of.

You might be able to swing it if you are saying you are coming back as opposed to leaving. They might forgive any debt you have if you are coming back as opposed to leaving. The best way to avoid this is to become friends with the people who work there. If you become friends with them, they will most likely figure everything out for you. If you are just a regular member, they will likely tell you to kick rocks. I became friends with a chick at the gym, and she ended up cancelling my membership without telling me, and gave me an employee badge so I could get in for free.

I called them and framed it as if I cancelled in 2018 and was looking to rejoin. Either I have seriously completely forgotten any part of cancelling (they say it has to be in written, I have no emails to them) or I just finessed him on the phone lol.

All is good though, no outstanding bill or anything.
