Okay tradie, I need your help. I've bit off way more than I can chew - mainly attributable to the fact I have zero experience with this crap - and I need your help. I'm building a 3 foot retaining wall (with no surcharge). My blocks are all 6 inches in height, and 10 inches in width, with varying magnitudes of depth. I dug my trench 9 inches down, and 20 inches wide.

So, I put in 6 inches of 3/4'' gravel, then tamped, and started laying stone. But, after only a few bricks it felt like I wasn't going straight. I'm laying the bottom of the block 3 inches below grade (the sidewalk). But I'm finding out that the sidewalk isn't level or straight. It's pretty flush with my driveway though... do I just keep going? Is it jsut an optical illusion?

I need help. Do you see what I see?

Keep going man, no one is gonna call you out because you're off by fractions of an inch, unless you got one of those neighbors that tries to "one up" everyone else.

I've seen walls run completely level and also parallel to the slope. Considering you areen't really retaining earth, it probably doesn't matter, but nothing a long level and a mallet wouldn't take care of if you wanted it completely level. The first row of bricks is most critical, the rest will fall in place.
