Are Chiropractors Legit?
Been having neck and back pain, so I went to a chiro, he took x-rays, examined me, and told me to give him a day to over the x-rays. Next time I go in he says the curvature of my back and neck are not correct, and that my shoulders are misaligned. He says I'll need 3 months of physical therapy and manipulation, along with some at home exercises. The cost of all this will be about $2k.
My question is this, anyone been to a chiro, and if so, how were the results?

When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

Why the phuck would you get xrays done at a chiro? They aren't doctors, they go to some classes for like a month and then they're done.
Also, chiro is BS anyway. Do proper and consistent stretching, and yoga instead. Dead srs.

It takes at least 7 years of schooling to become a chiropractor.
On another note. I honestly dont know if it truly works or if its more a placebo. But I do feel better when I leave, and pain does subside. I feel massage from an actual RMT work better.
Hey gideon! Ive been looking at your wall, its pretty frickin sickening bro.

even if you did have a "misalignment" there's honestly nothing that could fix that unless you have surgery. LOL if you think his hands can produce enough force to "realign" your spine. The forces produced by just walking or running would ****ing destroy your spine. The spine and all of our joints in our body are extremely strong and resilient. Go to a physical therapist that's not connected with this retarded chiropractor and get your neck and back evaluated.
(I'm a PT)
those "adjustments" or "manipulations" are exactly like cracking your knuckles. you create a difference in pressure in the joint and it causes the popping noise. We don't know the exact science on why it feels good but the latest research shows that it stimulates mechanoreceptors in the cells which causes temporary pain relief. Physical therapists can perform the same exact "manipulations" that chiros can, but the difference between physical therapists and chiropractors is that we use it as a tool to reduce pain and then follow up active exercise and don't lie to you about some bull**** about "realigning your spine." Exercise is really whats going to make the long-term change for pain.
PTs are much better educated on the anatomy and physiology than chiropractors, the only reason chiros have more power than PTs is because half of their ****ing curriculum is marketing and they know how to scam the general public.

They are kind of like mechanics for the body. Yes, there are reputable ones out there that do good work and can fix your sh!t. There are also a lot that will sell you crap you don't need. That said, they are a 'doctor' in the same way a train driver is an 'engineer'.

I think there's some value to seeing a Chiropractor, but on the whole it's nonsense. They try to get you in there paying $40 per 4 minute visit, and they never would consider telling anybody, "You don't need this for any reason"."
It's mostly a Health Insurance scam profession. If Health Insurers stopped paying for it, most would go out of business.

Chiropractor worked great for my old back injury.
That being said, every chiropractor is different, and every injury is different, you may get no benefit, or even make it worse, but in my case chiro saved my life basically.
Long term you would want to look into hip mobility, strengthening the injured area with proper exercise, and of course stem cell therapy to rebuild whatever it is that you damaged.
For neck stuff you gotta do shrugs, neck exercises, get a real pillow, that countered hard stuff pillow I mean, and a good mattress, rather firm.
Supplements and correct diet will help with pain and recovery. Turmeric, repair enzyme supplement, fish oil, Vit D, Mag, Cal, joint formula with MSM glucosamine Chondroitin etc.

oh and everytime i get a patient coming in for back pain or neck pain, they always say theyve been going to their chiropractor and getting adjustments.
I always ask "how long have you been seeing them."
patient: "for years, they're great."
the fuk, you go to a healthcare provider for years for the same problem and see no resolution in pain and you say their great? amazing how brain washed people can be

OP, it's pretty simple. People who chiropractors haven't done much for will say they're bs. Others will say they're great.
Last year I had a nerve pinched so bad, I was damn near crawling for 2 days. I literally needed help getting into the chiropractors office.
45 minutes later the pain went from a 9 to a 2 and I walked out like I was perfectly fine after being adjusted. So IMO yea, they're the real deal.
Edit: Back pains are a **** deal all around. Most of the time you've got two options: rest and hope it heals or if its something major: get cut on and that may or may not even help you - or make your pain and condition worse.

I am gonna see an ortho and a PT for a second opinion as well.

i take back the **** I said about him then. Sounds like a good chiro. Wouldnt hurt to have the manipulation done, IMO, a good physical therapist is much better and will reduce the cost of your care esp since PTs can perform manipulations if they evaluation and believe you could benefit from it.

A family friend of mine was a chiropractor and would give me free adjustments all the time. It helped with neck tension but I don't know how effective it was beyond that.

nope
it's more holistic than acupuncture
i went once, top 3 highest rated chiropractors in the city, and i was permanently disfigured
decent doctors or specialists would never recommend a chiropractor. they always recommend physio or massage therapy, never chiropractors

Waaaay too much money
I see my chiro when I crack cartiledge and my ribs pop out of place or if I get neck cranked really hard etc doing bjj. It helps with the healing having him pop stuff back where they belong.
I never make the recommended appointments, afterwards. Just go and get one alignment and let myself heal.
I strongly believe they help a lot getting over minor injuries with very physical sports and it is a good cheap alternative to say seeing my sports medicine guy I go to when I actually break somthing. Or if I’ve done somthing minor and want to heal faster.
2k is ridiculous.

I've seen about 50 in my lifetime
Of those 50, only about 4 were legit.
My insurance covers unlimited chiropractor at 100% but without a good practitioner I dont even bother using it tbh because 90% of them are trash
They're not as bad as physiotherapists at least

honestly IDK how legit they are. But I gave one a shot that a close friend/fellow miscer recommended to me. went for about 1x/month for 6 months before stopping.
I initially went because I was having some rib pains while breathing (According to her, subluxated rib), and also had a chronic issue with my right upper trap/next area getting exceedingly tight and painful to move/look around. After the first session, the rib pain was gone, and my neck felt significantly better. I really felt like there was a benefit, which is why I went for 6 months. she would do more or less the same stretches, cracking, and cupping exercises each time to, in her words, "loosen up the tightened muscles causing the pain and help open me up".
I eventually stopped going because I hadn't had the rib pain or tightened up neck/trap for months, and figured I didn't need to keep spending my money. The neck pain did come back, but now I just have my buddy who recommended me the chiro dig in there with his elbow for about 10 minutes or so whenever it really acts up, and that helps ease the pain a lot.
If you have a serious issue and want to see if there's a simple fix, I think 1 session with a chiro would be a good start. I wouldn't go just for the sake of going and to prevent anything in the future unless recommended by a doctor. I may be using her again soon as my neck has been acting up more than normal.
$2k for 3 months seems pretty steep though, unless you're seeing him multiple times per week. I pay $80 a session...so spent about $240 across those 6 months.
