A question for Americans

Do you have close friends with different political beliefs to your own?
From the outside looking in it just seems like this doesn't exist and everyone is in their own echo chambers (for example, are you a republican and your best mate is a democrat?)

Or do the majority of people not really give a **** about politics and this is all just blown up on the internet?

Please give me some perspective on how this works in your country.

Would it cause major conflict to openly disagree with each others views? Or is the subject politely avoided?
I find in New Zealand you might have a group of friends with different political views and you either have a polite debate about it, or know when not to voice your views/cause to much conflict and just be chill.

It seems much more.. aggressive.. in America. (From both the left and right).

Yeah my family argued at Christmas. Me and my girlfriend argue all the time. People argue at work. Most of my friends and family are going nuts on social media.

My step dad watches youtube videos on marxism and liberalism for hours every day and my mom gets mad about it.

My sister and law and her boyfriend are liberals. He's pretty far left, she's barely left of center (even has a CCW). We've made an agreement to leave politics out of conversations. I genuinely like the dude when he's not spouting left wing bs so hanging out with him is fun as long as we both stick to the agreement

It was this way just a few short years ago. Trump supporters get shouted down as racists so they stay quiet to avoid conflict and non tumultuous workplaces and homes.

To the one guy responding, get a new gurl that doesnt politic. Free advice. Also, go cough on your grandparents. Jk that's mean but the example is to never talk politics at work or with family.

I don't discuss political beliefs with my friends, or really anyone except for my dad because he isn't a big baby.

Many people hold that kinda stuff very dearly (I don't) so I'd rather not go there if people are gonna take it personal, be offended etc.

It's basically not worth being brought up, if you're cool with someone you're cool with them.

That's why grandma's apple pie rocks and yours sucks.

^^^Racist police officer who also cries about how racism doesn't exist, also cries reverse racism and typifies the stupidity of the racist right, referring to black people as "they" and regurgitating racist stereotypes.
