It’s kind of a hybrid of both I guess. If the video were from the side, it would be more clear that it’s out in front of me. If it were an upright row I would be bringing it more straight up closer to my body.

I’ve suffered pectoral and shoulder injuries in the past, and I’m trying to limit that.

Just messin, I always touch down/graze upper chest on every rep though... admittedly it's probably not good for the shoulders. Always feels good for me though. OHP is probably my fav exercise

Full RoM shoulder presses are great for the shoulders.

Looks good to me - not sure the depth on the military press is that big an issue since your elbows came down to shoulder level (though I'm not sure my perspective is right here).
What does everybody else's shoulder training look like this week?

[img]https://media.giphy.com/media/WsjvRxj8RRxYZgIzzI/giphy.gif[/img
My workout later today should be:

4 sets max reps chins
Lat pulldown & face pulls - supersets (4)
Side raises (4)
DB shrugs + incline db raises - supersets (4)

I'm still getting back into this after months off so may need assist on the chins and I'll drop weight across the board, just to make sure I don't overdo it. My leg DOMS (posted about this the other day) from Monday is horrific. Like - holding the door of a car to get in, and having people think I have a bad back - that bad. Tried a magnesium rub but it hasn't done much that I can tell.

I know the feels.

Try 4 Advil.

Better yet, throw in a few sets of light front squats after you do shoulders. Increased frequency is the number one way to reduce soreness. It will not be fun on that first set though.

Well, let me follow this up with another question: should I be stretching during bad DOMS or not?

After my workout on Monday I spent a good while cooling down and doing gentle stretching and it felt great at the time. But now...if I stretch it just doesn't feel right.

I ask because there's some debate on this out there, too.

I've been lifting weights for 25 years and during that 25 years, the consensus on stretching has changed a dozen times from:

1. Necessary pre-workout.

2. Not necessary.

3. It actually makes you weaker.

4. Just do it after you train.

5. Nobody fuking knows.

Personally my low back, hamstrings and groin get extremely stiff and (especially before I squat or deadlift), I have to spend about 10-15 minutes warming up those areas by stretching.

But I mainly just do it for ROM and to get my body feeling like it can move around better. I can't say it ever did much for muscle soreness. But if I have sore low back, it can definitely make that feel better.

Not much help, I know.

Do what feels right to you because there is no consensus no matter what anyone tells you. My opinion on reducing extreme soreness is to increase frequency (but only do a moderate to low amount of work on the second day). That's one reason I like to front squat on deadlift day. Legs don't get as sore from squatting.

I just got back into the gym after not lifting heavy for several months. From my experience, the DOMS will be very bad if you use high reps/volume on your first week or two back. Even if you use light weights.

Way I did it was selecting a moderate weight for low reps (I did more warm-ups than usual) and worked up to doing 2 sets of 3 reps, with maybe around 70-75% of my 1RM pre-corona. This should feel easy, heavy enough to get your body used to the feeling of heavy weights, but not so much time under tension and reps that your legs feel murdered the next day. This was for squats, i focused on moving them as explosive as possible on the concentric. For accessory movements and machines maybe do something for 6-10 reps at a moderate rate but don't go all out on it.

Had very minimal DOMS, then over the next two weeks started doing sets of 5-8 on squats. I squat 3x a week so the frequency helped. I got some DOMs which is expected but definitely not terrible at all. Stretching for me personally provides very mild benefits, wasn't really worth it to me.

For leg DOMS I would suggest using an airdyne or a bike for like 5-10 minutes before a workout. For upper body, the rowing machine isn't bad either. Movements that get the blood flowing overall. Avoid sitting down too much and just walk around whenever you can. Otherwise, you need to suck it up because not lifting will only prolong it. But just do what you can.

I didn’t even think about this, but I have a recumbent bike that I use sometimes to work out soreness either before or after a work out.
