What was your favourite arcade game ?

Rastan - Super awesome Taito platformer/action game with tight controls, an alpha-tier soundtrack, awesome aesthetic and fun gameplay.

Xybots - This game was so far ahead of its time it's scary. Get rekt Doom.

Hard Drivin' - Man, this game blew me away as a kid; it felt like you were driving a real car. Also, dat loop-dee-loop...

Daytona USA - LET'S GO AWAY

X-Men: Children of the Atom/Darkstalkers - These games are both equally amazing (hot take: they're basically the same game). Fun and visceral fighting games.

The Simpsons/X-Men - Again, very similar games. Konami beat 'em up goodness at their top-dollar best.

But gosh, my favorite, and the one I go back to time and time again:

Street Fighter II - How could this not be among anyone's favorite arcade games is beyond me.

Arcades became popular in the 80s because they had better graphics, the controllers were a lot better and the screens were bigger. In the 90s consoles and PCs simply became cheaper to develop and buy, and slowly but surely simply became better than arcade games. There was an overlap when arcades and console games looked pretty much the same, and then console games just kept growing and getting better. I guess it was about convenience really. You could get the same quality games without leaving the comfort of your home.

I was at an arcade last week and it was actually quite sad. A lot of the machines were either dead or had blurred CRT screen due to aging. It felt like I was walking through a grave yard or something.

Magic Sword. That one got crazy with two players at once. Lot of memories of the roller-rink in the early 90s.

It was pretty hard to beat Cruisin USA and Cruisin World back in the day. Simpsons Arcade a definite top arcade game back in the day, same with light gun games like Area 51 and Time Crisis. Then there's the Neo Geo arcade systems that had Metal Slug and Bust a Move.

It was just Metal Slug 2 that ran poorly at times, the original and other sequels always fan well. Metal Slug X was the fixed version of 2.
