Just what in the hell is the point of the Apple Watch?

Verizon guy threw it in as a package deal with a free watch and Ipad when I bought the 11 max pro.

Been playing around with it and I can’t see where I’d really need to use it. I always have my phone on me anyways. Can anyone list the top 5 things it does? Because I have no interest in my heart rate or daily physical activity because I already get enough. It’s the series 5 btw.

I thought it would do something like this when I first heard about it

Why pull your phone out when for $500 more and another device to charge, you can have a smaller, less convenient interface that does the same thing?

I almost bought one but I looked objectively at its functions and I just don’t see the utility for it. Not worth spending money.
No man has the right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training. It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable.

I’ve often thought the same thing.

The watch does do the ‘fitbit’ thing, however accurate that is, so it does something somewhat beneficial I guess.

i have a samsung watch. it's convenient. i use it to:

1. take calls on it if my phone's out of reach or my hands are full (i.e. cooking)
2. monitor my sleep, which then makes me try to get more of it
3. stores my tunes and connects to wireless buds during workouts, no phone needed
4. tells time, duh. unless you already wear a regular watch, it's easier than taking out your phone every time

My friends find excuses to use it. It usually wastes more time, then just pulling out there phone to do what they want.

It’s basically a Fitbit for most people.

Shoulda just kept it int he package and sold it.

I really dont see the point of smart watches. I bought a gear sport for kinda cheap but only used it a couple times.

They are basically glorified fitness trackers.

I usually always have my phone with me but the samsung watch has spotify you can listen to offline playlists and use samsung pay. WHich is cool if you are in a situation where you wouldnt have or want your phone.

I think its very beneficial if you have services actived on it but then you're spending another $15/mo to make calls/texts/etc.

I have an Apple Watch and I love it.

I monitor my heart rate when I swim, run, or bike.

I don’t need to bring my phone along on workouts because I can stream music from watch.

I can easily track my score and stats when playing golf so I don’t need my bulky phone in my pocket

You can use it as a walkie talkie.

I can leave my phone at home and make calls on the go if I need to.

Whole lot of things I use it for.

Wait, I can take calls on it and just talk into the watch or do I need Bluetooth speakers to be connected?

All these devices are useless until they can take a blood sample. This is a good example that we are just getting killed by our lack of innovation. If everyone was getting weekly blood samples we would shortly have medical super human AI and ultra cheap health care. If you cranked it up to daily during this pandemic we would have no lockdowns or masks.

Instead we just pretend we have all this innovation when the iphone was introduced 13 years ago now. It is taking longer and longer for any real innovation to happen.

Hate having chit in my pockets while lifting so use it to avoid bringing my phone. Can download music/podcasts to it so does everything i need while at the gym.

Got it as a gift though. Hard to justify the cost for what it really is.

I’m always on the move at work. I leave my phone at my desk so the watch is super convenient. The sleep and steps taken during the day is a plus. Plus I use it during workouts so it monitors heart rate.

Smart watches are for *******s and nerds.

Edit:
Doesn’t apply if the watch is only used during exercise.

I use mine on the motorcycle to preview texts and change music. Much easier than getting my phone out. Which I just wouldn’t do.

I use it to monitor my heartbeat quite a bit.

I used to use in the helicopter to preview texts and identify people trying to call me. Looking at your wrist is much easier than having to deal with your phone when being so preoccupied both mentally and physically.

It is useful to me.

Also, it tells the time.

I dont have one, but I'm hearing its a fit bit that can do everything your phone can. Except I doubt the interface for internet access has to be garbage based on screen size.

To each their own, but i don't think I'd ever get one.

I mean, no one is trying to misc on a watch lol.

I don’t even think you can access safari (or any browser) on it. Just apps.

Was in the market for a fitness geared watch and the series 5 checked all the marks. I have an iPhone and I got it for a steal so why would I go with a different brand? Can listen to podcasts/music while working out without having to bring my phone along. The ECG is a nice feature for someone that has heart health issues in their family like I do.
