SATs and ACTs banned for UC admissions LOL GTFIH
A superior court judge has ruled the University of California system cannot use ACTs or SATs to admit students because it disadvantages low-income students.
https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/01/us/un...rnd/index.html
Just fukin LOL at the liberal chit society Cali has become. No more prestigious schools. No more good schools. Inb4 professors leave for other states.
https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/01/us/un...rnd/index.html
According to a 2015 analysis by Inside Higher Ed, the lowest average scores for each part of the SAT came from students with less than $20,000 in family income. The highest scores came from those with more than $200,000 in family income.
WOW! On average, parents that take life seriously encourage their kids to educate themselves!? And on average, parents that refuse to improve their own lives don't encourage their kids to do the same!? Moon lands on man.Just fukin LOL at the liberal chit society Cali has become. No more prestigious schools. No more good schools. Inb4 professors leave for other states.

That's a shame. I attended a UC myself. It's arguably the best and most competitive public university system in the country if not the world. This will only dumb down the entire system if GPA is the only academic criteria they have to go by. As we know getting an A at one school might not as hard as getting a B- at another school depending on demographics and such at that school.

dummies would rather sue the system than save their money and use the guaranteed acceptance transfer programs from the exceptional CA community colleges which are usually in worse parts of town anyway

That's what you want, people not smart enough getting into courses then going on and getting jobs because of their associated group regardless of credentials compared to other applicants. Just most bleeding heart liberalism social at play. No-ones at fault, let's drag everything down to one low tier level.
Sucks for people who got their because of their abilities, they'll just be clumped in the same charity assumption.
Can CA ever pass a law or anything that's just not totally ludicrous and laughable?

SAT's are useless anyways
does anyone actually think they mean anything?
i do agree that Cali is banning them for the wrong reasons though

Wonder if CSUs will follow suit. When I attended CSUF, there were some serious dumbasses in my GE classes. I remember in my Geology course getting a C on one of the exams. I thought I did pretty bad but then the professor told everyone that the average grade for that test was a D. Felt a little bit better about myself after that lul.

I graduated form their flagship, Berkeley, and didn't take either of those because I was a transfer. I don't even know what those tests look like. I graduated with a 3.7 from Berkeley, an identical GPA to the one I had in community college. It really isn't necessary and probably does disadvantage those who don't have the economic resources to train for those tests.
I am more of a centrist than left leaning, so I don't even have a bias here. In fact, I hated my experience at Berkeley.

SATs don't work but it's pretty fukking stupid of the judge to throw it out based on that. Definitely feels like an overreach of power. Liberal justices though think they're the Daimyo of their own region though.

i'm just kinda interested to see what they do base it on then...
and the experiment thereafter
major increase in enrollment? what about money? even if you remove SAT's as a result of low income... low income families prob still can't afford it
edit: i didn't read the article btw. 3:40 am here, passing out

Yeah, I mean water is wet. Many many many many parents pay for thousands of dollars in SAT tutoring for their kids, and the poor people can't do the same. It's unfair, but it's also fair because although they are doing paid practice they might not always be putting in their 100% effort, from my eyewitness account I'd say the majority of them don't wanna be there and dont even take the practice seriously. Purely speculative, but its just what I noticed. Being poor doesn't stop you from getting a good score, unless you're legitimately dirt poor to not even be able to afford a computer. One good friend of mine was dirt poor af but he went to the library and grinded KhanAcademy every day for most of the summer and ended up getting a perfect score while other affluent kids got pitiful scores despite their prep schools lol. I think its when youre rich, you can afford to make more mistakes and can afford to be lazy/procrastinator as than when you're dirt poor
that being said, my verdict on this is that california dun fuked up bro

I knew kids that blindly took the SAT without studying for it and they got like 95th+ percentile scores. I also knew loads of kids that actually worked really hard and studied for years for the SAT and also did pretty well.
If the SAT isn't a good indicator for some kind of "intelligence" it's at least a good measure for work ethic. IMO it positively weeds out both dumb and/or lazy candidates regarding college admission. Colleges should want smart kids with high SAT scores AND high GPA's, because you can totally cruise through most high school courses and get a very high GPA if you don't take honors or advanced placement.
SAT is sort of the equalizer. I don't think taking those fancy/expensive SAT prep courses is beneficial, and I don't believe a poor/underprivileged student is missing out if they have even the most basic access to the internet and a strong drive to succeed + time management skills. Pricey tutoring is a legit scam, especially for tests like the SAT. It's like hiring a trainer to follow you around the gym when you're the one picking up the weights lol.

The dumbing down is happening everywhere. The LSAT will not have the “logic games” section starting at some point in 2023.
Also, currently the UC and CSU and private colleges in California are essentially retard factories—for the most part. Standards are lowered in general, but especially for females and blacks and homosexuals. Grade inflation is the norm. A lazy shiftless black lesbian can get A’s and B’s in liberal arts/humanities majors or B’s and C’s in STEM majors and then get a MA or MS without actually learning anything but some woke sjw terminology and speaking points. All of it paid for by student loans and federal and state grants and scholarships for homosexuals, females, or blacks only.
If our black lesbian has some basic intelligence and a little ambition, she can even get a PhD. There are cohorts made exclusively for the aforementioned groups and they all but actually type the dissertation for the retards...Africana studies, chicana/o studies, Jewish studies, gender studies, queer studies, sociology, poly sci, history, philosophy, etc., are all open fields for sjw’s.
Some of the professors I encounter, especially a lot of the younger females, are incredibly stupid. You can tell they were basically handed their doctorate because they had a vagina or took shots in the ass or they were black.

tbh tho its not surprising that it got stricken down because the more times you take it the higher your score
that **** costs around $100 a pop i knew kids that took it like 6 times
Make it free or cap the amount of times kids can take it, boom.

SAT was the only way to get some merit based scholarships when I was white. They already have a million income and race based scholarships. They also want all kinds of ****gy meaningless activities like drama club this or oh you were on the JV team for that, which is all meaningless information as far as your ability to finish college.
The SAT is a fair metric because everyone takes the same test. It has been a problem for marxists now for a while because its a metric that reveals the truth in their actions, so marxist do what marxist do and anything that goes against their ideology they ban.
Theres only like 4-5 degree areas that are even worthwhile and if you cant do decent enough on the SAT you cant excel in those anyways. Do you know what the asian kids scores looked like at my stemcel highschool, they had lower english scores but high math scores to balance it out and did fine. A lot of them their parents main language isnt even english.
The only way for colleges to deal with an influx of dumber kids is to lower the standards, otherwise everyone will be bitching saying the professors are all failing them. Most of these degrees were already worthless 20 years ago, I cant imagine what a communications or sociology class looks like after theyve dumbed it down another level.
